White Lion became succesful??
Very much so in the late eighties.  It's too bad the grunge era took over, I think White Lion would have had a longer run.  Their last and underrated album "Mane Attraction" is fantastic!  They did manage to put out four good albums.

He's OLD - the dementia is kicking in!

Anyway - this is a great thread! Surprised I didn't see it when it was initially posted. Glad it was resurrected! I went with:
Ozzy Osbourne - third Randy Rhoads album
DT - fourth KM album
DT - eleventh MP album
others (please specify)

Huge list for "others":
DT - followup to Awake with Jordan
DT - followup to FII with Derek
LTE - with Billy Sheehan and Jens Johansson
LTE - immediate followup to LTE2
Rush - GUP with Steve Lillywhite producing
Rush - followup to Clockwork Angels
Rush - immediate followup to Test for Echo had Neil not had his tragedies
Riverside - followup to LFatTM with Piotr Grudziński
Threshold - immediate followup to Psychedelicatessen with Glynn Morgan
Transatlantic - immediate followup to Bridge Across Forever
Judas Priest -  followup to Painkiller with Halford
Iron Maiden - followup to SSoaSS with Adrian Smith
Deep Purple - album with Satriani
Deep Purple - second album with Joe Lynn Turner
Black Sabbath - followup to Mob Rules with Dio
Black Sabbath - followup to Born Again with Gillan
Queen - full followup album to Innuendo with Freddie
Queensryche - followup to HitNF with Chris Degarmo
Queensryche - followup to Q2K with Kelly Gray
Whitesnake - followup to 1987 with John Sykes
Journey - album with JSS on vocals
Megadeth - followup to SFSGSW with Dimebag
Metallica - followup to MoP with Cliff
Metallica - AJFA properly mixed by the producer and mixer instead of the band taking over
Def Leppard - followup to Hysteria with Steve Clark
Van Halen - followup to 1984 with DLR
Van Halen – followup to VH3 with Gary Cherone
Depeche Mode - followup to Songs of Faith and Devotion with Alan Wilder
Dokken - immediate followup to Back for the Attack
Don Dokken - second album
Saigon Kick - immediate followup to The Lizard with Matt Kramer
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Oh, I'll go with Perry hanging around for a follow up to Trial By Fire.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but as much as I love FII, I would be interested to hear what it would have sounded like had Kevin Gilbert been able to produce it.

I suppose it is a relative term LOL

But I would classify them at least as big as Ratt… and they were pretty big during the hair metal phase.

Let’s put it this way. Their videos were in constant rotation on MTV. LOL

Ratt at least headlined arenas. White Lion wasn't even close in popularity. They were basically hair metal one hit wonders. Pride went double platinum on the strength of the two tracks you mentioned, and Big Game went Gold. Clearly a big let down.

Ratt's first album went Triple Platinum, the second one went Double Platinum, and the next two went Platinum each, followed by a Gold record.

Thay have many great songs besides the hits from Pride.  "Lady of The Valley" and "Lights and Thunder", both epic tracks with some great instrumental sections. The production on the album Mane Attraction is stellar..

Transatlantic - immediate followup to Bridge Across Forever

yes, yes, yes!

Although i worry it might have ended up being like a Secular version of Testimony, but even if that had happened, I'd be awfully curious.

I was so disappointed in Big Game after the excellent Pride. The guitar sound was so weak and “nice”. It didn’t rock at all.
Mane Attraction was better, but Pride was their best.
Saw them live a couple of times and they were very good live.

The one drawback to getting another TA album right after BAF is that we likely wouldn't have gotten The Whirlwind in '09.  I am not a believer in "change this thing in the middle and everything after still turns out the same way."  Had they done a 3rd album in '03 or '04, they might have gone the Whirlwind-type format on that one and then might not have wanted to go with that format again on the 4th album (whenever that would have been).  Sure, it would have been interesting to see what the 3rd album would have sounded like had it come a year or two after Bridge..., but I will take the greatness of The Whirlwind over the curiosity of "what could have been" any day of the week.

Agree great things came as a result of all these conclusions but I believe DIO would've still happened after Sabbath regardless a year or two (albeit possibly without Campbell so for arguments sake who knows how DIO may have fared otherwise?) but out of curiosity went with one more album with the RJD lineup!

To this day feel was a shame we missed that 3rd album while they were at the top of their game.

Yeah, I'm with you.   Things happen the wya they do for a reason.   And I also believe that some of the best music comes out of turmoil, so "another album with "x"" is kind of playing with fire, because we might not have gotten that LAST album had it not been so conflicted.

Anyway, suspending reason, I would have liked one more record with the "Slide It In" version of Whitesnake.  Cozy, Sykes, the rest of them.  That's still my favorite Whitesnake record and probably always will be.

I don't know if I mentioned this earlier in this thread, but the big one for me is a post Union Yes album with Rick Wakeman and Trevor Rabin.  I wonder if they would have taken advantage of the possibilities that lineup would have presented.  Also, I would have liked to have seen an official live album from the Rabin years as well.  A show from the Talk tour would have been great.

3.  Another Dio album with Sabbath immediately following Mob Rules.

Well, we got Holy Diver.. I would've rather that than another Sabbath record.

Good point.  You get one and you can't have the other, and I can't imagine liking another Dio/Sabbath album as much as I like Holy Diver.

I'm old enough to know that White Lion were never Freaking HUGE?  :lol

They had a couple of small hits you mentioned on Pride, but I seriously don't recall a single song by them after that.

I suppose it is a relative term LOL

But I would classify them at least as big as Ratt… and they were pretty big during the hair metal phase.

Let’s put it this way. Their videos were in constant rotation on MTV. LOL

I'm with Tim.  Pride went 2x Platinum, but the follow up only went Gold.  Wait and When the Children Cry spent a few months in heavy rotation on MTV, and their lousy cover of Radar Love got some play, but that's about it.  WL spent most of '87 and '88 opening for bands like Aerosmith, Ozzy and AC/DC, but they never headlined arenas.

Ratt, on the other hand, had four consecutive Platinum albums (with two of them going multi-Platinum) and spent pretty much all of the second half of the '80s headlining arenas.

Both bands disappeared by the time the '80s were done.

And I saw them on the Mane Attraction tour, co-headlining with Mr. Big.

I saw them in 1987, 3rd on the bill behind Frehley's Comet and Y&T (headliner).

White Lion didn't really have a "tour" in support of Mane Attraction.  In May and June 1991, they played 24 dates in Europe (about half on the continent and half in the UK) at 1,500-3,000 seat venues.  They then did four U.S. dates in late August/early September at similarly sized venues.  After that they broke up.

I saw them in the same venue I saw DT a couple of times.

And I think 24 dates is a tour, maybe a small one, but still a tour.

And all this is totally irrelevant to the wish Lowdz expressed and I supported to hear more from Vito Bratta.

Actually no, haven't heard much from Di'annos stuff after Maiden. I did see him live once but he mostly played Maiden from what I remember. I will check it out now that you mention it.

Well, here's his 80's output..

This came out in 1984 and has a real AOR feel. Nothing close to Maiden. Their wardrobe was sponsored.  :lol My favorite track is Tales Of The Unexpected.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ahiq7OhR3GM

Released in 1985, this is a three track EP. You can see the lineup right on the cover. Past and Future Maiden.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuAzi-PlaNw

These are the two Battlezone albums. The first one, Fighting Back ('86) is actually really heavy. The second one, Children Of Madness ('87) has a much more polished sound.

From Fighting Back
The Land God Gave To Cain

From Children Of Madness
Whispered Rage

I don't know if I mentioned this earlier in this thread, but the big one for me is a post Union Yes album with Rick Wakeman and Trevor Rabin.
Ooo - that reminds me:
Yes Union without all the meddling by Jon Anderson and Jonathan Elias, as well as a followup with the whole band performing instead of being divided into ABWH and Yes West.

Not sure it's been mentioned but a follow up to Killers with Di'anno would've been interesting. I always had a special thing for early punky Maiden.
Good call! Not super huge on the debut, but I chalk this up more to the production/mix than the content. And I absolutely love Killers. So yeah, a third Maiden with Di'anno is another I'd be interested in. Not only that, but also the debut album with Martin Birch producing/mixing.

I'd just take the raw tapes without the Elias meddling.  Though the ABWH songs suffered for not having Squire on there; his presence was really lacking.

Not sure it's been mentioned but a follow up to Killers with Di'anno would've been interesting. I always had a special thing for early punky Maiden.

Did you follow DiAnno throughout the rest of the 80's? Some good stuff there.

Released in 1985, this is a three track EP. You can see the lineup right on the cover. Past and Future Maiden.

These are the two Battlezone albums. The first one, Fighting Back ('86) is actually really heavy. The second one, Children Of Madness ('87) has a much more polished sound.

From Fighting Back
The Land God Gave To Cain

From Children Of Madness
Whispered Rage
Yea that wasn't exactly the most exciting stuff i've heard. Kinda cool hearing Gogmagog with Clive but the music was pretty meh.
