Be'Lakor Appreciation Thread
« on: November 26, 2012, 11:05:16 AM »
Apologies if I'm wrong but I couldn't find a thread on this excellent band from Australia.  I absolutely love their sound, which can be described as melodeath with some prog elements.  Their latest album, 'Of Breath and Bone' is fantastic and I highly recommend checking it out (song links at the bottom of the post).

Is anyone else loving Be'Lakor as much as me?

Word. The latest is lovely and their lyrics are beautiful.

Bragging corner: I interviewed Steve Merry via email. Awesome guy.

Wow that's cool.  What were you interviewing him for?  I'd be really interested to read it if its available...?

I have 'Of Breath and Bone' on almost constant rotation - so addictive, and one of my albums of the year for sure.

Here it is: https://www.metalstorm.net/pub/interview.php?interview_id=634
As you see, my questions were rather generic and his answers were really interesting :)

I think I prefer Stone's Reach sliiiiightly but I'll have to have a song-by-song deathmatch to decide :)

Awesome stuff!  I'd actually read that interview before and thought at the time that it was a good read.  And I think you are being a tad harsh on yourself with regards to your questioning!

I really like all of their releases, and so picking a favourite is a tough task.  Every album has its merits, and is well worth checking out in its own right.  What are your favourite tracks?

I know this thread is ancient, but I just rediscovered Of Breath And Bone, and it kicks major ass, even more than Stone's Reach in my opinion :2metal:

Just necro-bumping this to let DTF know Be'lakor has released a new album, "Vessels", and it's awesomazing.

Play the first two minutes (skip to 1:40 if you are THAT impatient...) of this and tell me you are not headbanging and/or stomping your foot.

It really is great, yeah! Seem to be taking over for Opeth these days.

Love this band! Each successive album has gotten better and better. Vessels is a candidate for my AOTY.

Discovered this band about a month ago.  Never heard of them so I was surprised to see they are Aussie boys.  What an amazing band, picked up a copy of Vessels and this also could be my album of the year, brilliant.  Looking forward to discovering the rest of their albums.

In the same boat here. Found out about this band through Vessels a few months ago because everyone was praising it. It might touch my top 5 AOTY but I'm not sure yet as I've only heard the full album twice.
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

It's one of those albums that needs a LOT of listens IMO, but something keeps making you want to keep replaying it and discover it more.  So many good melodies on here that don't stick out until repeated spins, such a brilliant album.

Mega bump for myself.

Went looking at a few cd stores around the city suburbs today and stumbled across a copy of Of Breath and Bone.  Vessels is still an album I spin a lot but just never got around to checking out the other albums from these guys, but picked it up right away and it's brilliant.  Not sure how it will stand up to Vessels but these guys are so damn good.

Vessels is good.  Really good.

Haven't heard a single note from any of their other albums.  Interested to see what you think.
Winger would be better!

There aren't many metal albums I consider better than Of Breath and Bone. It's an incredible combination of catchy melodies, gripping atmosphere and great lyrics.
Always too soon, always too late, always in between.

Vessels is great, the songs are fantastic, but the actual sound is what makes the album special for me.
It sounds so dynamic and almost old school, with a mix that you can hear everything so clearly.

Had Breath for a longtime but never really listened, that is being rectified right now :)

Both Vessels and Breath have a pretty similar sound but different atmospheres.  Some of the melodies on Breath here are fantastic, this band is really amazing.

Stumbled upon this band on Spotify today, cool find. A mix of a little bit of everything but I like it!  :tup

Vessels is great, I love the sound on this, a lot of space in the mix, that sounds different to other bands of this genre.
I think they are doing a new album ATM.
