I like his early stuff and his late stuff. My dad was into Clapton's late 1970's mellow stuff and it drove me nuts when he would spin those albums. Tales of Brave Ulysses was not on the list but my favorite from Disraeli Gears album.

I had some friends way back when who were nuts for Clapton and would always talk him up. I always liked some of his stuff, but never thought he was "all that" when it came to playing the guitar.

I thought this would be an interesting thread to see how many people vote since I rarely see him talked about here.

He has as much to do with that classic Marshall guitar tone as Hendrix IMO ( I want to say Fender / Marshall but I don't know what he played back then ), but he was a more reserved player . Cream as a band pioneered some cool stuff and paved the way for a lot of bands and players.

The list is missing SWLABR.

There is no denying he's one of the greats of all time, but like Rod Stewart, his talent far overshadows the material, which is largely underwhelming to me.  I like Cream (never used to, Jack Bruce's voice, but growing into it) and I love the albums that Phil did with him, but some of his recent stuff, eh, and that 70's era (I Shot The Sheriff, After Midnight, Lay Down Sally) is to me, no bueno.

That song was honestly my first thought when I saw this thread as it was my favorite song title when I was getting in to classic rock, despite the fact that I hated the song. I would have thought any classic rock guru would know that acronym.

And what's this malarkey with Rod Stewart and talent???

Hnmmm, I figured it was an acronym, not the actual name of the song.

Checking it out, I recognize it, but never knew the name of it. See, these threads help us learn new things.

I'm sorry but I love his voice.  His albums with Beck - Truth and Beck-Ola - are essential.  But the songs?  Eh.

Saw Rod Stewart a number of times in the late 80's. Always an awesome show. Thought he broke my finger with a damn soccer ball.
