One of my favorite bands.

Of the songs given, I would pick these 6:

Cowboy Song
Emerald
Don't Beleive A Word
Massacre
Dancing In The Moonlight
Chinatown

So many great songs not listed.

I'm still trying to find some time to properly listen to them. For now I voted Massacre, because of the Maiden cover, and Emerald.

Obviously they're a huge influence on Maiden, but when listening to Opium Trail, it's as if Nicko was playing drums.

I'm going to (rightfully, I'm sure) take some stick here, but I picked Emerald, because Ace covered it, and Massacree (that's how Bugs Bunny pronounces it, so it must be right) because Maiden covered it. I like the Metallica version of Whiskey In The Jar (because I love the traditional song), but that's it.

The only three LIZZY songs I've heard, I really don't like: Boys..., Jailbreak, and Emerald (actually, Emerald is okay). I really don't like Phil's voice. I hate that scatty, talky way of singing. I dig Brian Robertson (Another Perfect Day is my favorite Motorhead record by a lot, and I love Wild Horses with Jim Bain) so I don't know what the deal is, but Thin Lizzy just never clicked with me.

Waiting for and Alibi - sneaky catchy
Sarah - hit a soft spot, song about his daughter which also happens to be my daughter's name
Cowboy Song - because... TAC
Dancing in the Moonlight - tribute to Van Morrison?
Southbound - not your Allman bros southbound

HM Rosalie - Bob Seger throwaway that they made their own

Well I have you to thank for turning me onto TL. I mean, of course I knew their radio hits ( who doesnt) but it wasn't til I listened to ( and eventually acquired ) all their albums that I began to realize how good they are.

Fighting and Night Life are underrated , even by you !

I find it fascinating that TL is mostly known as a hard rock band , but a lot of their music has a jazzy lounge act quality to it, which i love. Especially on those early albums.

I love Fighting, but you might be right on Nightlife.

My nomination for underrated album is Johnny The Fox. Just listen to Borderline, and it's as if you are sitting right next to Phil at a bar.
And of course the great Don't Believe A Word, which was performed soft and hard, both effectively. Gary Moore would continue to play it throughout the rest of his career. It is always amazing.

Stadler, I totally get "not getting" a band, or a band not clicking with you. You've heard enough music that I respect your judgement, but man oh man. If you could ever open up to the world of Thin Lizzy, you'd be in for an amazing experience.

Johnny the Fox is excellent. So consistently good, as are all of their albums ! Their music oozes with sentimentality, in a good way. Makes me want to crack open a bottle of scotch.

Easily one of the most underrated rock bands in history.

T&L, Hollywood, Jailbreak and Boys would make my list if they had been added. Out in the Fields deserves major props, that's a awesome tune.

From the list I would put Cold Sweat, Sun Goes Down, Angel of Death, Bad Reputation, Don't Believe a Word and especially Killer on the Loose (extremely catchy tune).

If you want a great introduction to the band, the album Wild One is a perfect one.

Goddamn Thin Lizzy kicks so much ass.

Emerald, Johnny the Fox and Cold Sweat stand out just a hair above the rest, but there really aren't any mistakes in everything I've heard from them.

A little birdie left a present in my PM box. "Borderline" from Johnny The Fox. I take back some of what I said; Lynott really sings on that track and of course it has Robbo playing some sweet, melodic guitar. Easily my favorite Lizzy song (well, out of the four I've heard). If that's more indicative of TL, I should give it more of a shot.

I really hate the two hits though.

I'm not familiar with their whole catalog, but I picked up a Japanese 4CD box set of their stuff over 20 years ago, so I did get a good taste. Definitely some tracks I could do without (Johnny the Fox.... for one), but there's a bunch of great stuff too.

From that list, I chose:
Emerald
Massacre
Bad Reputation
Chinatown
Angel of Death
The Sun Goes Down

One song that should have been on that list (IMO) was Got to Give It Up - what a killer song. Shame that Phil couldn't do it.

Everything I've heard from Black Star Riders sounds really good and seems like the next step in what would have been the Thin Lizzy sound.
