1. Kali Uchis-Isolation
2. Rae Morris-Someone Out There
3. MGMT-Little Dark Age
4. Sylvan LaCue-Apologies In Advance
5. Car Seat Headrest-Twin Fantasy
6. Altar of Perversion-Intra Naos
7. The Decemberists-I'll Be Your Girl
8. Rich Homie Quan-Rich As In Spirit

Been a pretty slow year for me so far (I've only really gotten into the top 4 on my list as of now). Especially compared to 2017 which was just awesome throughout. Still looking forward to more releases later this year.

Yeah, it's one massive album. Black metal is not a genre I'm usually listening to but Intra Naos is quite the experience. Not sure I want to  experience it again any time soon though.

Can believe no one's mentioned Auri yet - best album of the year so far by a mile, and head and shoulders above whatever I'd put at number 2.

they all released after Halloween.

I stopped doing Christian Calendar Lists a few years ago out of frustration for albums that come out so late in the year, I made the cutoff point Halloween. Anything that comes out in November and December (which in most years or cycles, most albums do come out by the end of October, but there are always some exceptions).

Keeping a spreadsheet to listen to all the posted albums was a great idea... finally catching the new God Is An Astronaut and it's stellar (rimshot). Galactic Cowboys was pretty cool, the new Frank Turner is damn good, and I've got all weekend to listen to a bunch more.

I also forgot the new Kamelot album. It's... okay.

Edit: omg the Gleb Kolyadin album is amazing

Top Five so far.  With the line-up of albums that I am anticipating on listening to this year, I can see #4 and #5 change.  The top three will probably stay around my fave five throughout the year.

1. Myles Kennedy - Year of the Tiger
2. Breaking Benjamin - Ember
3. Sevendust - All I See is War
4. Walking Paper's WP2
5. Black Stone Cherry's Family Tree

After checking for news on it constantly over the years and not hearing anything about it, the new Arctic Monkeys album somehow completely slipped past my radar and came out 3 days ago. This might be in my top 10 of the year, "Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino." Awesome stuff.

Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino just barely edged out Machine Head's latest for second to worst of the year for me :lol

Really do not like this seemingly Alex Turner solo project, and I'm still one of those that actually really likes AM (the album) which also got some backlash for being too Alex Turner-centered

Ah, that's a shame. Of course, A.M. is the only Arctic Monkeys album I actually like (don't really enjoy anything before that one, but AM is nearly perfect), and I'm a sucker for piano stuff. I always figured Alex was 99% of the brains anyway.

Everyone needs to go check this album out, right now. It's absolutely fantastic. I cannot praise it enough, it's one of my favorite albums in the past few years, let alone 2018.

2. Between the Buried and Me - Automata I
3. Locktender - Friedrich
4. mol - JORD
5. Conjurer - Mire
6. Typhoon - Offerings
7. Runeshard - Dreaming Spire
8. All the Luck in the World - A Blind Arcade
9. The Republic of Wolves Shrine
10. God is an Astronaut - Epitaph

Ah, man I just absolutely am encapsulated with it. The riffs and the musicianship just really do it for me.

I'm listening to SoundscapeMN's top album by The Family Crest right now, and it's excellent thus far. I certainly need to check out more from all of these lists! Haven't listened to a ton of new stuff in 2018 (or 2017, for that matter), compared to how I used to devour new albums.

The only progressive metal album I've really loved so far this year is Valis Ablaze's Boundless.

It's more melodic death metal, but with some progressive flair here and there. But I can totally understand that, haha.

It is definitely pretty technical and that's what put me off it, felt more like musicians doing homework than making compelling music  :lol

but I know there's an audience for that

Yeah, admittedly sometimes I just kind of turn off the emotional/feeling aspect of music and just enjoy the visceral experience of the riffage, the technicality, and this is an album that definitely allows for that.

A few changes here since listening to the new albums by Amorphis, Slugdge, Alkaloid, The Family Crest and Greyhaven. I also realised that the new A Perfect Circle album isn't actually that great and I rated it way too high.

Update on my list:

1. Frank Turner - Be More Kind (folk rock)
2. Boss Keloid - Melted on the Inch (progressive/stoner/sludge metal)
3. Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name (progressive death metal)
4. Ihsahn - Amr (progressive metal)
5. Dimmu Borgir - Eonian (orchestral black metal *not so heavy on the black metal though*)
6. Thy Catafalque - Geometria (progressive post-black metal)
7. Oceans of Slumber - The Banished Heart (progressive metal)
8. Weedpecker - III (progressive/stoner/sludge metal)
9. Amorphis - Queen of Time (progressive melo-death)
10. Good Tiger - We Will All Be Gone (djent-y progressive rock)

11. Between the Buried and Me - Auotomata (progressive metal)
12. Orphaned Land - Unsung Prophets and Dead Messiahs (progressive metal with eastern influences)
13. Slugdge - Esoteric Malacology (progressive/stoner/tech death metal)
14. The Legend of the Seagullmen - Legend of the Seagullmen (progressive metal)
15. Hypno5e - Alba - Les Ombres Errantes
16. Alkaloid - Liquid Anatomy (progressive metal)
17. Giraffes? Giraffes! - Memory Lane (post-rock)
18. LLNN - Deads (progressive post-metal)
19. The Family Crest - The War: Act I (progressive rock)
20. Greyhaven - Empty Black (metal-core)

3. Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It
4. Between the Buried and Me - Automata I
5. TesseracT - Sonder
6. Hypno5e - Alba - Les Ombres Errantes
7. Ihsahn - Amr
8. God Is An Astronaut - Epitaph
9. Orphaned Land - Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs
10. Hibakusha - Prophet of Numbers
11. The Dali Thundering Concept - Savages
12. Mile Marker Zero - The Fifth Row

Never heard of them but I trust your judgement dude. I've added it to my list and I'll give it a listen today  :corn

I think the Alkaloid album will likely rise in my ranking, only given it two listens.

Weedpecker is just great but it may drop a few places.

Love the new Dimmu Borgir! Council of Wolves and Snakes is my obsession at the moment.

The new Sleep album is pretty cool but misses out of my top 20.

As for the others in your list:

I've only listened to Greyhaven once but it left a good first impression.
TesseracT, I just don't see the appeal. I probably like this new one more than some of their past efforts but they mainly leave me cold.
Sludge may also rise, it's pretty great and (along with Rivers of Nihil) is just the sort of death metal I need in my life.

I'll probably add the 3 other albums I've not heard to my list as we generally have a good overlap in tastes.

I was so looking forward to that Rivers of Nihil album after Train sent The Silent Life in my roulette, but ended up being a bit disappointed in the rest of the album. The Silent Life is definitely the best track on there. The rest of the album ain't bad, but not as good as I was expecting.

ngl I agree that a lot of the album is kind of disappointing, especially after seeing so many people rate it highly here. tbh I find it to be a bit inconsistent and it doesn't really flow that well all the time, despite having some really great moments sprinkled here and there.

I'm listening to SoundscapeMN's top album by The Family Crest right now, and it's excellent thus far. I certainly need to check out more from all of these lists! Haven't listened to a ton of new stuff in 2018 (or 2017, for that matter), compared to how I used to devour new albums.

great to hear   :)

The War: Act I is a great record that the band spent many years and hours working on, and I think it shows in many ways. Just the production alone sounds very carefully and meticulously made.
