What music/audio player do you use with your phone?
« on: April 30, 2018, 02:38:25 AM »
I bought a Moto Z2 Force about 6 months ago, and recently decided to put a card in it so that I can listen to music at work. I've got an old ipod that I've been relying on for many years, but it's only 120 gigs, and the battery is to the point that it hardly keeps a charge at this point. I put a 256 gig card in my phone today, and I'm using flac for the file type.

I downloaded vlc player, but I don't really like it so far. I might get used to it after using it for awhile, but it seems like a huge pain in the ass. I've also tried the play music app that came pre-loaded on my phone, and it seems to suit me a little bit better, but I'd like to get some opinions about various apps that are available.

On a side note, I'm using a pair of Marshall studio monitor headphones to listen to music, so sound quality is definitely a priority.

I'm using PowerAmp on my Android phone, and in general I think it's excellent. Gapless playback isn't perfect, but it's better than a bunch of other apps I tried, and in pretty much all other regards it works really well for me.

I mostly just use Spotify, but for local audio files I use BlackPlayer EX.

Apple user here, so I just suffer thru iTunes and Spotify.  Both have pros and cons when compared to one another, but neither are great.

PlayerPro.

Poweramp doesn't read all of my MP3 tags and filters hundreds of albums into unknown artist folders.  I don't feel like adjusting hundreds of albums, so I use PlayerPro, which works fine for me.  I recall really liking PowerAmp before having that problem several years ago.

I just use Spotify and occasionally Play Music on my phone (Galaxy S7) but I'm not that particular when it comes to mobile listening

I was trying to find one a month or so ago. I should have asked here.

Tried a couple, settled on JetAudio (free version). Does what I need it to, I like the interface. No complaints.

Used Foobar for the longest time, but recently switched to Google Play Music when I realized I was getting free streaming with YouTube Red.

Google Play Music can store 50K songs for free.  That's what I need, ripping my CD's to it.

I use Google Play Music. I have a 128 GB SD Card filled with 128 kbps mp3 files (for lack of space). It is full and it has over 25 thousand songs. I will probably need a 256 GB SD card soon.

I bought Neutron and think it is great.
Great sound and lot"s of possibilities to tweak it just  the way you want.
The UI could be better but given the sound quality I don't care.

It's the only way it will fit. I only listen to it underway or at the gym, so it is not so important. At home everything is lossless.  ;D

When do you ever need 25 THOUSAND songs all at the same time though?

I use Spotify and iTunes on my phone and use both those mediums to play music at home. In the car it's all CDs

I don't stream music at all (don't want to pay for a large data plan based on how much I listen to music on my phone.  I had a 64gb micro SD card, which kept about half of my collection.  It became a pain in the ass to swap albums on and off of my phone depending on whatever mood I was into (i.e. let's listen to EVERY _____ (Maiden, DT, etc.) album this week, when I normally only kept my favorite handful of their albums on the card).

So I upgraded to 128gb and then 256gb so I could keep my entire collection, plus have room for lots of pictures and videos.  Having my full music collection is convenient, since I can just pull up whatever album I want to hear on a whim and not have to worry about whether or not it's already on the card.

Well, I could ask you "when do you ever need the infinity of songs you can choose on Spotify and iTunes?" Simple. You feel like listening to something, you search for it on Spotify and you listen to it. It is available whenever you want. The only difference is that I prefer having it on my phone. I've never used Spotify (or similar) and will never use it.

And yea.. pretty much this:

I don't stream music at all (don't want to pay for a large data plan based on how much I listen to music on my phone.  I had a 64gb micro SD card, which kept about half of my collection.  It became a pain in the ass to swap albums on and off of my phone depending on whatever mood I was into (i.e. let's listen to EVERY _____ (Maiden, DT, etc.) album this week, when I normally only kept my favorite handful of their albums on the card).

Actually, the trend seems to be heading toward streaming than uploading.  Amazon is doing away with the uploading service and is now doing streaming only, which sucks for those who have rare CD's.  I hope GPM doesn't follow.  I don't want to pay a subscription fee.

I'm with the GPM group here, being able to stream King Crismon and Transatlantic when at work is fantastic. The cell phone app is pretty simple to use and has a decent sound quality.

Used to use PowerAmp but got a free month's trial for Google Play a couple of years ago and haven't looked back since. Think I've bought a total of 3 CDs since then...

Itunes, but not streaming.  I like the idea of streaming but my understanding is with any streaming comes larger data usage on your phone bill? We have a lower tier Unlimited data plan with Verizon so I'm not sure how streaming music works with a crappier signal., I've been Itunes from almost the beginning with all my CD's loaded in. Also my computers and phones are Apple, which makes everything seemless.
