Speaking of 80s pop/rock, Cutting Crew definitely belongs there, the first two records were stellar and the third had some good tracks as well.

I remember getting the 2nd one on cassette and not caring for it all.  You are a rare person who has talked up that record. ;)

That's weird. I didn't think that song was edited at all when it was a single. My version is 4:41.

This is the original recording with the keyboard ending.  I was pisses the remaster had the single version.  It's like 8 seconds!!

https://youtu.be/Ss0tSqwtS1A

Hmmm, I just listened and I must have the same version as you; it just fades out at the end.  That is strange for them to have changed it.

Not sure where you'd find it.  I got the CD a long time ago, so it is not like that is a recent remaster that changed it or anything.

OK...TAC-Dork incoming......

So a song I hear at work a lot always makes me stop dead in my tracks. It's Chris DeBurgh's Lady In Red. This song totally transports me back to the 80's. It doesn't have any special meaning or memory with any person, but it totally moves me.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Oh man.

I think I have told the story before, but a friend of mine (who is like 53 now) had a chance to see them on their last American tour (1981, I think), but didn't go and said to his friends, "I'll see them next time,"  And they never came back.  D'oh!!!!

My first concert: Michael Penn in 1990. Still like his March CD a lot.

With that first concert, you've really got no business mocking someone else's first concert, Kiss or otherwise.  ;).  I'm happy with my first, but I'd take Kiss in '79 and Asia in '83 in a heartbeat.

Mine was Judas Priest (with Iron Maiden opening) on the Screaming for Vengeance tour.  I did see "Sha Na Na" when I was a kid, but it was a family thing, and I think I saw Beatlemania as a school trip, but Priest/Maiden was the first without any parental accompaniment.

First five:
1. Priest/Maiden, Oct. 1982
2. Billy Squier/Def Leppard, Mar. 1983
3. Maiden/Fastway/Coney Hatch, Aug. 1983
4. Yes, Feb. 1984
5. Kiss/Accept, Mar. 1984

First concert: T'Pau - 1987 or 1988, another 80s group. The Bridge Of Spies record is great, the second one good, the third one forgettable. And they really rocked live, much more than on record. And I had a little crush on Carol Decker.  :blush :D
Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

Back to digging into the 80's, I am still listening to a lot of XTC.

Skylarking & Apples and Oranges are both really good pop records, with the former being the stronger, for sure.

Black Sea sounds really good as well.  I love how that one sounds, similar to English Settlement, where everything is crystal clear, with the bass and drums really kicking your ass, but never overpowering everything.

I should really give XTC a shot. I hear about them influencing a lot of music that I like. Maybe after my roulette...

They were on my "bands to check out" list for years, and I am glad I finally got around to it.   What's really cool is they seem like a blend of many different sounds and styles, from pop rock to punk to psychedelia to new wave to flat-out rock, so you get some different stuff with not only every album, but with every song.

I guess I should give them another chance, tried listening to Skylarking and found it awful, mostly those synths  :lol . But I've been slowly getting into 80s music so I could try.

I don't think they sound that 80's, in the sense where you hear them and think, "80's band," like you do for a lot of other bands.

I would recommend English Settlement.  It is long - 15 songs and was a double album (back when an album that long was a double) - but the first half of it should suck you right in.  Colin Moulding's fretless bass playing is something to behold on that record.

I saw both the Scorpions show and Dio show on those tours.  I LOVED Twisted Sister live; they were so much better than the records.  They tore it up in New Haven, literally; I was in the first section after the floor (so i was looking straight across the floor seats to the stage) and there was a fight on the floor.  All I could see for half the show was the silhouettes of chairs being thrown back and forth.   My dad's boss's daughter was down there and got a chair to the face, was all black and blue for a week according to him.

I saw Twisted Sister back on the Come out and Play tour (Dokken and Tarzen opening). They were really good. Easily one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Although coming on after Dokken and Tarzen might have something to do with that.  ;D

I had their album, only because it featured Danny Peyronell from UFO.

Pretty much the last band I'd ever think I'd see mentioned here.

Saw them at the Met Center in Bloomington MN. I'd never heard of them before the show and only remember them because of the silly name. (although in retrospect if I remember the name after this long it must have some redeeming qualities)

Any love for Adam and the Ants or Men at Work here?

I have the first two Men At Work records, a compilation, and Live In Brazil. Been kind of looking for the third record off and on for a long time.  Colin Hay has a solo career that's almost as big as Men At Work but I've never been inclined to see him.

Adam and The Ants are my wife's department. I've seen them a few times and I think she's go all of the studio records. He's actually going back on the road soon and we discussed seeing him, but we're keeping our powder dry for bands we'd rather see more.

Not that I know a lot about what this guy's done, but that's my favorite Chris Deburgh song of all time. That might of course be because it's the only one I know. Lost track of him after that video. Can't imagine I'd find anything to top it though even if I'm not all that interested to go looking.
