Burial in the Sky's record is definitely tasty death metal...brutal and tech-y, but with some good doses of melody too...
Hammers of Misfortune: The August Engine is so good and unique. More "heavy metal" than their following albums, but it's their own brand of HM...
Big Big Train: as I mentioned in their thread, I think Folklore is great. Lovely, lovely album.
The Wildhearts: a ton of fun.

That Burial in the Sky album is really, really good. It's not just all out tech death (which I thought it would be from that album cover), which is nice as it helps give it more depth. As you said dude, some great doses of melody. Thanks TAC  :tup

That's my favourite Wildhearts album  :heart  and yes, it is a fun record and great to sing along to.

Was a bit worried, but Tish and Daisy pulled it off. A classic sounding Dead Deads record. This is a top contender for me this year. May not take the top spot, but should be up near there.

Really nice listen tonight. If you crossed Dio Era Sabbath with Ozzy Era Sabbath with mid range Ripper Owens on vocals.
Excellent cover of Children Of The Sea.

I thought it was a really good album.  What did you think?

The reception isn’t very positive at all but I think it’s pretty good. The 2 bonus songs are good too and should’ve been on the actual album and would’ve made it better.

Great day for new albums, and I've got others to get to yet.

Leprous are obviously great. I've given this a few listens today but was mainly distracted looking after my son at the time, so unable to fully appreciate it. I didn't LOVE any of the singles this album cycle, unlike my obsession with Below. I'm looking forward to properly sinking my teeth in.

Jinjer, I can't really call myself a fan. I've got that album that has Pisces on, but it doesn't do a great deal for me. I know I also checked the EP they released a few years ago, but not the following album. I was really pleasantly surprised with this latest album. I'm not sure if Tatiyana's (is that her name?) vocals have gotten even better, but they were certainly a huge highlight. I'm gonna get around to more listens and also the 2019 album.

The Bronx, well I've been aware of this band for at least 15 and I've seem them at various festivals (including their mariachi band), but this is the first time I've listened to a whole album. It was really good fun, rock and roll. I'll definitely revisit and also go back to some of their older albums. I know that of all my friends who are into punk/metal, not a single one was a big enough fan of this band to drag me to a show or lend me a CD. It's surprising actually, I can't think of another band at this level, that have been on my radar for so long, yet not checked out. Never too late I guess.

Lastly is Ex Deo. I have one other album by them, that my brother gave to me like 10 years ago. This album is OK but nothing particularly special so far.

Couple of Friday releases this afternoon..

Has both clean and harsh vocals. Don't love the harshies, but I can get through it easily enough. The music is pretty cool. Not quite black, not quite groove.. Some really nice guitar thoughout.

Phenomenal 3 track EP. I have all of their stuff Saved on my Spotify already.
This has a 1970's "heavy metal" feel to it. Vocals sound like Eric Bloom/early Chuck Billy.

I'll have to check this out. After their doom-ier beginnings (Curse of Conception is pretty sweet in this regard), they've moved to a more classic-metal sound. For my taste, they hit the sweet spot with Divided By Darkness (which has a healthy dose of 80s metal too). Their last full length is great too.

I listened to this earlier and was left wanting more! All three songs are great. Even though it feels like a love letter to that classic metal era, the song writing is really strong. Wake Up gave me Bark at the Moon vibes  :heart
