Black Map - Trace The Path

Oh, I didn't know this. I loved their "In Droves" album. I see it's an EP, I'll have to check it out!

It's only 4 songs but it's really good. I looked them up after I saw they are touring with Stone Temple Pilots.

I've never gotten into country music so I figured I'd give it a shot this morning. I decided to put on Brad Paisley's Play. Man this guy can play, I'm thoroughly enjoying the record. I saw him years ago at a venue I worked at and was impressed by his playing but never gave him a listen until now.
Check out Chris Stapleton.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I had discovered Black Map with In Droves because of the Dredg connection (the guitar player, Mark Engles). Not surprisingly, there's quite a bit of Dredg's sound to be found in there, in a slightly "rockier" and direct package (at least compared to more recent Dredg's records). EP is in my queue now  :)

Yea that's how I heard of Black Map too. A lot of the stuff there reminds me of the super early dredg demos. Can't wait for the new album from them.

Riverside - Love, Fear and the Time Machine

Riverside - Eye of the Soundscape

Riverside - Wasteland

I see a trend here  ;)  :tup

Love, Fear, and the Time Machine is a favorite of mine. I haven't really spun Soundscape more than a cursory listen. Wasteland was decent, but again, Time Machine.... I'm very interested in what comes next.

I'm also noting your listening because, have your ever listened to Klone? They are a French band that to me, has similar vibes to Riverside. They have been around since 1999 I think, and they have done the Anathema arc where early stuff was way metal, and now it's far more melodic and atmospheric.  I'm going to suggest that you check out the last studio album, "Le Grand Voyage". It's superb.

it's a great way to showcase the drum sound by introducing the album with that awesome drumming and sound.

Witherfall - Curse of Autumn / Time for another spin, still one my favorite 2021 albums. The release seems so long ago.

Ulcerate - Stare into Death and be Still

Code-Flyblown Prince

Really cool album. I saw it reviewed on Metal Reviews and basically ended up listening to the whole thing. Kinda blackish metal, but it's not like it the whole way through. I don't really know how to describe it.
8 songs-44 minutes

Giving this a spin now and it's definitely worth giving another listen. Also got this queued up for later...

Holy shit. Can't say I love the vocals, but this band is fantastic.

@ Puppies, you might dig this.

Cheers for the recs TAC  :tup

EDIT: Damn, that closer 'The Mad White Hair' was awesome 👌

Just want to say thank you guys for the discussion on this band. I checked out "In Droves" and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I would hazard to guess that people who are fans of Thrice might enjoy this band as well. I know Thrice has had varied sounds in their career, but a few tunes on Droves gave me some Thrice vibes. Anyway - as one of you said, I hope there is new stuff from this band.

Didn’t like Isolation much. A bit bland.

Glad you enjoyed In Droves. It was a nice surprise for me when it came out. And yes, some Thrice vibes, for sure...especially Vheissu-era...

Fahrenheit's title track is pure 80's pop fire though!

Marathon - The First Run

Dutch Neo-prog band who are kind of a heavier version of late Fish-early H era Marillion. Found them on YouTube years ago and just recently stumbled upon someone in the US selling it on Discogs. Pretty cool stuff.
