The album from Alustrium is pretty good prog/tech-y death metal. I'm normally not a huge fan of the genre, especially its more recent evolution, but this was a fun listen. I'd even say it's catchy at times
Terminalist's The Great Acceleration is a very good thrash/death album (I think they dub themselves, uhm, "hyperthrash")...I guess I can hear a Vektor influence here and there. Some interesting twists, though, like the almost gothic-sounding Estranged Reflection...
Dialith' Exinction Six sounds like a more aggressive and direct Nightwish. Not necessarily my first choice as a genre, but I find this record very enjoyable. It was independently released a couple of years ago, and they still have no label, which I find surprising. They just came out with a new EP.
Possessed Steel's Aedris is a great classic/epic-metal album from last year.
