Night Crowned is indeed very interesting - can hear a bit of that blackened death metal that Dissection was so good at, with more orchestral stuff going on.

Kepler Ten was a little surprise from last year. Prog rock/metal from England. There's definitely a Rush influence, especially with the prominence (and sound!) of the bass. But there's more than that. Nice melodies and very pleasant record overall.

Helloween- Keeper of the Seven Keys 1&2

Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

This is excellent. I like both their albums.

Ah, some good old-school Stratovarius! I have a special fondness for this and, even more so, Dreamspace (which might well be my favorite of theirs)

Deathwhite are clearly heavily influenced by bands like Katatonia. It's a good album. I need to check out the other one. Grave Image hasn't blown me away, but it's very good and I caught myself noticing lots of nice melodic choices while listening to it. As for Stratovarius, Dreamspace is wonderful. Early Stratovarius at its peak. And it's funny that due to its age and all the lineup changes that not many people talk about any of the songs on that one. There is some really cool stuff in there.

Yes, they are...there's a song on Grave Image, Plague of Virtue, that pretty much starts as a tribute of sorts to Discouraged Ones-era Katatonia (an album that I love and that tends to be forgotten...). Between the vocals and the overall mood, I think the songs tend to blend a bit when you listen to the whole thing, but I really enjoy their combo of Katatonia and more "muscular" guitars

Indeed! They had such a cool use of keyboards back then. I miss the melancholic part of their sound that was so prevalent on that album.

What a fantastic album this is. Perhaps one of the biggest musical surprises, when I first (quite randomly, really!) listened to it, years ago.

I take it you are not a big fan?  Do I redeem myself by saying it's really more about Kip Winger as a solo artist - not so much Winger the band?

But then again, I also love Power Windows, so maybe I am beyond redemption... ;D

For Tim, there is no redemption for anything Winger related.

Threshold - March Of Progress

I've been on a real Threshold binge these last couple of days. I think this might be my favourite album of theirs at the moment.
