Average length varies a lot by genre and era of time but yeah, 42 minutes is just barely within the range of "normal" for me.

For reference, my incredibly objective scale:

Extremely Long: 80+ minutes
Very Long: 70-80 minutes
Long: 60-70 minutes
Normal / Average: 40-60 minutes
Short: 30-40 minutes
Extremely Short: 25-30 minutes
Grindcore: <25 minutes

anyways i listened to the new steven wilson and like half of the new soen
they sure are albums that exist
power to y'all if you like the new soen i guess but i feel like at this point it's misleading to label them as prog since they're neither incorporating "prog" elements nor actually progressing their own sound or any genres or anything of the like, they're just heavier alt-metal with more technical performers than your average radio rock band is all

i mean 42 minutes is a very normal length for an album and not even close to EP length
dark side of the moon is a 42 minute album  :P

I wish more bands would release 42 minute albums these days. Think a lot of albums would be better cut down to that kind of length.

Although I've known and loved Melody, the opener, for ages, I never checked out the whole album. Time to fix that :metal

I'm really digging the new Steven Wilson album, but I agree about Soen.

Their last three albums are almost identical. That said, Lykaia was actually pretty great, but I start liking it less now that they're putting out all these songs that sound so much like that album.

i do wanna relisten to the new SW but i wasn't wild about to the bone and the pop influences he poured into this one are even further from what i liked from him, almost moving closer to what ulver are doing nowadays than anything so eehhh

First time listening to it, quite interesting. They went almost full shoegaze here.

This was my first real introduction to Deftones.

That's an amazing album cover.  Mesmerizing.  Makes me want to listen to that record; in the old days, perusing a record store bins, I would have bought that on the cover alone.

It would be nice if they incorporated more Swingy Jazz-Fusion stuff into their sound.

I've been seriously considering doing a run through their discography just for the sake of nostalgia since I never checked them out properly back in the day.

I’ve only listened to their first 2 albums but I like them, Meteora especially. I think Breaking the Habit is a legit great song.

Yeah it's great, and the music too, although I don't think it'd be up your alley at all :lol. But maybe this one is:

Quite a dense record, will definitely require more listens to digest but I like it.

Edit: Not for me. Not many interesting parts at all.

Oranssi Pazuzu - Mestarin kynsi

Think I'll listen to 'Mestarin kynsi' next as well. Haven't heard it since last summer.

Accept - Reckless and Wild
AC/DC - If You Want Blood You've Got It
Clutch - Psychic Warfare
Kate Bush - Before the Dawn
Steven Wilson - The Future Bites
Primus - Frizzle Fry
Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese
Human by Nature (prog-infused psychedelic metal): https://linktr.ee/hbnearth
Our debut album "Eläimys" is a trip I can whole-heartedly recommend to anyone into Pain of Salvation, Opeth, The Mars Volta, Magma etc.

Oranssi Pazuzu - Mestarin kynsi

I liked the sound and atmosphere a lot but from what I remember of it the songs themselves didn't do much for me - very unmemorable. Might give it another listen eventually.

Bring Me the Horizon - Post Human: Survival Horror

Decent, but I really don’t get the love for this. The hooks and vocal melodies are super generic. For example the chorus of 1x1 has the same vocal melody as the chorus of Avril Lavigne’s Don’t Tell Me.

Today, it's "Ok Human" by Weezer. Man, it's good. The melodies are beautiful, topical lyrics, hook-filled arrangements/orchestration and the drums punch through in the most perfect way. I have to give it 8.5/10 and it's a top 5 Weezer album for me after 8 listens. It's some great stuff.
