First impression after not listening to this album in like 15 years is it sounds like straight garbage. Who the hell mixed this thing?

Take a wild guess, given how it sounds the answer shouldn't surprise you. :lol

ooo I don't know I'll have to look it up.

You know I was in middle school when this album came out and I burned to a cd because I couldn't afford to buy it. My memory was it sounded terrible then but I figured it was a low bitrate rip. Today I looked it up on Spotify and it was terrible, so bad that I was like let me check some other sources and no, it's awful everywhere

It's the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Anthony Keidis is singing.  I venture to say it would sound like ass no matter WHO mixed it!

(I'll get my coat.  Tip your waitresses!)

I rate this comment.

The Mantle is special to me.  The depression, the lyrics, the atmosphere, the instrumentation, everything about it makes me feel warm and safe inside.  This album came to me at the right time a couple years ago.  It's magic.

It's brooding as hell.

It's very good, but almost too brooding and morose for me to listen on a regular basis.

I can see and appreciate that.  I can go back to it anytime and get lost in it, one of a kind album.

Oh! I know Rick Produced it but wasn't aware how much input he would have on mix.

I'm not sure either honestly, but nearly all the albums he shows up as a producer on are brickwalled as hell, so I think it's safe to point the finger at him. Death Magnetic is the infamous one, but some of his System Of A Down albums sound like shit too.

I think the only Rubin-produced album I have is Tom Petty’s Wildflowers which sounds pretty great. Wonder what happened (probably age and hearing loss).

If you're a fan of Wildflowers they just released a box set of all the outtakes of Wildflowers. The plan was to originally release Wildflowers as a double album but they scrapped that idea.

I found it hard to get into this.  Have the CD and watched it on YouTube and I should love this, but I kind of don't.  Not sure why.

Kate Bush - The Whole Story. I’ve been saying I was gonna check some of her music out for a long time, picked this compilation up for $3 recently. I have to say, her voice is weird (I knew that going in), but I am loving this stuff.

I didn't think they'd ever be able to top "Symbol of Salvation," but this album may just be the one.  Really great songs and dude can still deliver the goods on vocals.  :hefdaddy

She's got some great albums! I'd recommend starting with Hounds of Love, it's pretty accessible and lots of fun.

For some reason never listened to the soundtrack on its own, considering it's one of my very favorite films. Damn it's dope. Strong Massive Attack vibes here.

What do you think of that Arc Angel record?   That was a big one amongst my friends through high school.  I never met him, but Jeff Cannata is from around here, and supposedly did some producing/engineering for a dude I went to high school with and is in a band (I dated his wife; more correctly, he married a girl I dated in high school).   Going back to it, it's not QUITE as good I as remember, but still.  Plus trying to find a copy (reasonably, that is) is like finding hens teeth.  Prof. Peart wrote about finding his white whale in the UFO thread, and this is like that. There are copies, but they're all at least $20, plus shipping, and I don't think I want it that badly.
