wanted to like that wills dissolve album more than i did, i actually have their previous album which... has its moments but it's really inconsistent too

Plini - Impulse Voices

yeah so Plini is a mostly solo guitarist coming from progressive metal leaning towards djent, but throwing in a decent amount of jazz fusion (which is what drew me to his music after I saw him live opening for Tesseract).  This one is Impulse Voices which was just released.

Boulevard is a Canadian AOR band that released a couple of late 80s/early 90s albums that are well regarded and went on hiatus until they released a third album in 2017.  This is their debut.  Lots of good stuff on this one.

Another listen, damn it definitely is my 2020 AOTY. Such a culmination of everything Daisuke ever did. Highly recommended for any fans of post-rock, modern classical, glitch, d&b, chamber music. It's a beautiful mishmash of all of that, and it works.

I believe that was the pinnacle of their creative prowess as a group.  They've released plenty of solid material since then, but I don't think they've ever reached this level of genius again.  Such a brilliant album. 


Today I decided to revisit an album from about a decade ago, by a forum member here and the dude who will be playing all the lead guitar on the next album from The ANABASIS





Dream Theater fans should really love this   :metal

That Hourglass album is quite dense (it's a double album and a concept, I won't spoil it for you).  It took about 3 or 4 listens to really start sinking in and if I'm being 100% honest, I'm not crazy about some elements of the production, but my beefs are very minor mostly picky shit.


The music is outstanding and Brick is a hell of a guitarist and songwriter

And there are a million little breadcrumbs that you'll pick up on each time you listen.  It's really a very artistic album musically and lyrically.  Some pretty dark subject matter.

Woah, this is actually really good. Plenty of classic Boris tracks in a very dreamy post-metal fashion paired with Merzbow's nice and noisy textures. Works quite well actually.

Currently listening to a lot of Ulver, Clutch, Enslaved and Children of Bodom. Highlights are:




I'm newly acquainted with Monumension and Perdition City, but both are hitting the spot.

Psychic Warfare is far and away my favourite Clutch album at this point but only really listened to like 4 of their albums.

CoB I've always been a huge fan but revisiting their catalogue at the moment. I think Tokyo Warhearts is the superior live album, by a long way, but I'm appreciating Stockholm Knockout Live more than I previously had  :metal
