Opeth were very, very difficult for me to get into.  I am not a fan of cookie-monster vocals at all.  98% of my music library is bands that sing only.  To this day I still really can't get into the first three albums Opeth put out, but beginning with "Still Life" up through and including "Watershed" they just seemed to release better and better albums, collimating with their creative zenith in "Ghost Reveries" which I still think is their best album with "Heritage" right behind it.  I'm not crazy about their new direction.  The albums seem to get pretty uneven after "Heritage"

The cookie monster vocals was why I never checked them out but I want to give them a shot. There are some bands like Fair To Midland (early albums) that drop some heavy vocals and it fits perfectly.

If I can offer a suggestion, based on what you're saying here, I would start with "Watershed" and work backwards from there.  "Watershed" to me is the best mix of harsh/clean vocals on any of their mid-career albums.  "Ghost Reveries" is a stronger album overall, but it's got quite a bit more of the coarse vocals on it than "Watershed."  I know a lot of the old-school Opeth fans were kind of disappointed in it, but I think "Watershed" is an incredible album.

Disco-revival album of the year. Even better than Future Nostalgia.

Catching up on some of the 2020 albums I've missed, along with Strung Out and Gore. I think Gore might be the first Deftones album I've actually enjoyed  :lol

Well I listened to Gore as it came up in one of my Spotify playlists of albums to listen to, and I enjoyed it more than any other Deftones album to date, so I checked out Ohms as well. I did like it, although not as much, on one listen, as Gore. It's unlikely to break my top 20 of the year, but giving my second listen now.

I've come to the conclusion that newer Deftones is definitely more up my alley than the older albums (which I've tried many times over the years). I'm actually going to work backwards through their back catalogue, as they've always been a band I've thought I would actually love, if I preserved.

So yea tl;dr I did enjoy Ohms, just not as much as Gore.

My first listen. I liked it a lot. Pretty amazing how they pretty much still sound that great 20 years later on their latest album.

Yeah they're an amazing band, can't wait to see them on tour once this madness ends. If you're just getting into them, I highly recommend you checking out Koi No Yokan. Probably their most diverse album imo.
