Taking my cue from ReaperKK - this is my winter storm soundtrack

In my humble opinion, these two records represent the zenith of Opeth's career.

White Ward - Futility Report

Starting to get into this one. The dark and creepy atmosphere is nice and all, but it's got some really badass riffs here and there too :metal

Pretty sure I first heard this band when Parama played Futility Report (the song) in a plug.dj session  :metal

This was an instant purchase after the first listen! Great record. I can't for the life of me get into their latest album though.

Now that's a classic.

Have owned it on CD for many years but could never really get into it until now. Now I love it.

Something called Penguin Cafe Orchestra (self titled) that was mentioned on Steven Wilson’s podcast. One of these songs was sampled by Spacehog for their 90s radio hit In The Meantime.

Basically pastoral electronic prog type music. Think a more stretched out 70s version of Field Music.

Cool stuff there. I'm not sure I'm getting the hype for the unwound album but that might require a few more listens.

My curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to give this album a listen.

And I'll be honest... After just one listen, I really, really like this album. Musically, it's great, and honestly I think it's great lyrically. There's only one line in the whole album I don't really like, but that's just because I don't normally like swearing in music. This is so weird, but it's really funny. And even if/when the humor wears off, I think I'll still really like this album. A very good effort from Devin Townsend.

Come on now, "I'm Ziltoid, I don't give a shit, I live above Earth in a big rocket ship" is the best line on the album! :lol

That album's a mixed bag for me, but By Your Command and Color Your World are some of his best songs ever. :tup

Opeth were very, very difficult for me to get into.  I am not a fan of cookie-monster vocals at all.  98% of my music library is bands that sing only.  To this day I still really can't get into the first three albums Opeth put out, but beginning with "Still Life" up through and including "Watershed" they just seemed to release better and better albums, collimating with their creative zenith in "Ghost Reveries" which I still think is their best album with "Heritage" right behind it.  I'm not crazy about their new direction.  The albums seem to get pretty uneven after "Heritage"

The cookie monster vocals was why I never checked them out but I want to give them a shot. There are some bands like Fair To Midland (early albums) that drop some heavy vocals and it fits perfectly.

Check out the album Deliverance.  The title track, A Fair Judgement and Master’s Apprentices are really good songs.
