Listening to the new Fates Warning for the first time. Streaming from Spotify. The last one I bought a physical copy of was Darkness in a Different Light but I'm thinking now I perhaps need to get these latest releases on CD too. I'm not sure what to make of this just yet, some songs have been very good while others a bit on the boring side.

Ps. first post on forum. Been lurking here for a while, registered a year ago. Used to post on some other underground metal forums but the people on those forums were never into this kind of stuff. So when I found this place I thought what the hell, might as well check it out and read some. Forum seems cool and there's so much content I fell I'm drowning a bit.

Theories of Flight is a FAR better album than the latest one or Darkness In a Different Light.

In fact, I'd put Theories of Flight on a different level.  It's easily my favorite album from Fates Warning and I've been a fan since No Exit.

Goddamn this shit is terrible. I'm only through the first song but I don't remember it being this bad the last time (15 or so years ago) I listened to it.

Fascinating! Yes the songs I've heard are indeed great, but I have yet to check out the album as a whole. Strange, since I've been into the band for as long as I've been into heavy metal in general... I'd say my favorites are Disconnected, Parallels, and Inside Out.

Oh, this was one of those albums that made me question if I really liked prog or not. How could all these artists I liked have contributed to something so terrible?

Explorer’s Club was one of those 90s Magna Carta super group type projects (kind of like LTE, BLS, all the tribute albums) that was primarily a side project of the Gardner brothers from Magellan (not a band I was ever really into). I imagine Magellan must have been pretty bad too, but I know they have their fans.

Magellan had a couple of really great tracks spread across a handful of weird albums that were largely forgettable.  The Explorer's Club albums were also pretty forgettable.  Couple of decent tracks, but a ton of potential that largely went to waste.  It's like these groups had all the talent and personnel they just lacked a good production and songwriting element.

Pyramaze has been one of those bands that I always thought I should like but could never quite connect with them, but this new album of theirs is rather good.

It's way more catchy than I expected.

I really liked the first Explorer's Club cd. Couldn't really get into the second one, but the first one was quite good.

Holy shit, this is the closest I've been to being 'full house' with a Big Hath Six! Only one I don't listen to is the first one.

A magnificent one....

I feel like I jumped in a time machine with this one.  Some solid retro 80s style rock 'n' roll.  Also give me a bit of a Heart of Cygnus vibe.
