Lana Del Rey

I've never been into her stuff but after seeing so much hype, I had to give it a try. Damn, this is really soft and layered, with a light psychedelic vibe. Very chill pop record, I'm digging it.

i don't have facebook!

You don't have Facebook? I thought you weren't allowed to be a twentysomething without it.

everyone was using facebook when i was in high school (2007-2011) then like immediately when i went to college it became the platform for our parents and everyone went elsewhere for social media

granted, i never joined facebook in the first place

Yeah, most people my age are using either Snapchat, Reddit, or Instagram for the most part. Facebook and Twitter have kind of become cesspools of Russian bots, politicians, getting your personal information stolen and sold to large companies for pennies on the dollar, and angry racist old people (or in Twitter's case, angry racist young people). People still use facebook for Messenger tho.

Almost nobody I know uses Snapchat - I'm 28 - and I finally removed it earlier this year 'cause nobody was using it anymore. Instagram seems to be more popular, but that makes my phone heat up stupidly hot for some reason so I don't use it. Reddit I don't even have an account, I just browse. Seems like most people I know still use Facebook, particularly Messenger.

Yeah RIP...........and that album's bonus tracks on the re-issue are some of its best IMO.

Kora Winter - Bitter
Damn this is climbing my AOTY pretty fast. Really good young German band, mathcore/post-hardcore/prog? I wanna say they sound like The Hirsch Effekt but not entirely
halfway through this and my thoughts atm:
don't like the vocalist. he's trying too hard to sound "cool" it feels like and neither the harsh vocals or clean vocals convince me, it's like somewhere between post-hardcore and nu-metal
the drums are mixed so loud they bury a lot of the other instrumentation
the guitar work isn't remotely as sticky as the general hirsch effekt fare, nor as flashy. there's some cool riffs but not a lot of strong melodies

i can vaguely see the comparisons but the strongest case i can see is that they're both german and kinda mathcore-y but that's about it

edit: coriolis is pretty good but it's a lot different from everything so far

That is such a good album.

Yeah, Grails is a really interesting band to me.  I don't know that I can compare them with anyone else.  I really dig the different elements they bring into post rock.  Definitely not your standard crescendo-core fare.

Can't stop listening to Mariners Apartment Complex. Such a good song, I love how the verses are kind of jumbled a bit, with the different vocal styles and effects, then the chorus comes in with that bass. So cool. I love the lyric: "You're lost at sea/then I'll command your boat back to me"

Love it

That Lonely Robot album is great!

This. John Mitchell has produced a stellar body of work in the last five years, it must be said. Lonely Robot albums in odd-numbered years: Please Come Home (2015), The Big Dream (2017), Under Stars (2019), with Frost*'s Falling Satellites (2016) and Kino's Radio Voltaire (2018) sandwiched inbetween.

Umm...to keep the thread on topic, I listened to The Flower Kings' Stardust We Are last night. I'm listening to Aaron Copland's Symphony for Organ and Orchestra right now.

I can't say that I'm digging the Kino record or the newest Lonely Robot.  There are moments that are really nice, and lyrically they are really strong records, but the ballads are a bit too maudlin for my taste.  I think the first Lonely Robot record is the best of the three by far.
