Billie Eilish - When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

I was a bit hesitant to check this out because it's been the current object of Internet armchair music critic hate, but I kinda regret putting it off because so far (half way through) this is a good album. It has a completely unique sound that I haven't heard before, with a lot of really interesting and innovative vocal production throughout. Good songwriting with some catchy tunes, and a wide array of influences ranging from vocal jazz to trap to alternative pop makes this really interesting. Also BASS. SO. MUCH. BASS.

I'm going to echo what Anthony Fantano said and say that the bass is ribbed for my ears' pleasure. It's a really evocative and accurate description of the bass throughout this album. Too early to give a rating, but I'm gonna go for a tentative 4/5.

hey puppies and literally nobody else on DTF (well maybe train), check this out
this is pushing riiight up against the boundaries of how heavy i can take my metal and it's kind of blowing my mind rn

That's a pretty good impressive album. It's been on my list since a read a pretty good review a few weeks ago.
The vocals are pushing my boundaries too but musically this guys have some mindblowing skills.

For the billie eilish album I like a lot of the ballads but a lot of the weirder or trap-leaning stuff was too offputting for me to want to revisit more than a few tracks

That's fair, the ballads definitely rank as the best songs on the album for me too. I like the weird trap stuff here quite a bit and I think she pulls it off better than most artists. The bass is the selling point there (the bass on this album is just...SO good).

Also settling on a 4.5/5 so far for Billie Eilish. Would be my aoty so far if DT didn't drop something lol

well i didn't -like- their previous albums but they at least used to have personality. this is just generic djent-prog ripping off/recycling all the sounds of the modern prog scene with only two half-decent songs towards the end.

y'all who liked their first album... are y'all into this one too? or does this sound as bland to you as it does to me

Marillion has 4 perfect albums in my opinion.  Brave, Afraid of Sunlight, Marbles and Clutching at Straws.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated

Was expecting this to be good, but I think it might be my AotY so far. It's about the same level of quality as E-MO-TION and its Side B and very consistent. Good production, good lyrics, great hooks all throughout. Not really a song I didn't like on it or that felt out of place. 4.5/5

Spiritual Migration is my favorite of theirs as well, though I only have that and A'Athma.  Need to check out the first two records.  Great band though.

never heard the first album tbh, and shin-ken is... kinda bland, it feels like an underdeveloped spiritual migration kinda.

Glad you like it man

He seemed to have dropped some of the dissonance that made him as gritty and unique, still a pretty good listen

Whitesnake - Flesh & Blood - I have listened to this new one now three times. I think I've just moved on from Coverdale's stuff. I mean, dude, come on, you're pushing 70. Stop.
