be'lakor - stone's reach

frustrating in that i can't say it's bad but i didn't even finish it, it just does not catch my interest in any way. i hardly even remembered the song i was sent in my roulette last year. this style of melodeath is just, not for me though i guess

Spock's Beard - Noise Floor

One of the best albums this year.

Odd Palace - Things to Place on the Moon (there's no properly sized image of the cover on the internet it seems)

This was the album I was most curious about so far in ariich's roulette after reading write-ups. Parama's description is mostly how I feel about it, the weakest link is definitely the singer, but it still all works really well, pretty strong album here. I disagree that the title-track is the best (that spot is reserved for Delirious right now) though after more listens that may change.

Arms and Sleepers: This is so hard to rank in my 2018 RYM list because it's just sooo different from most of my music but I feel like I like it a lot. It's just something that fits a very specific mood for me so I'll have to hold off ranking it when I've formed a clearer opinion. As far as experimental chill electronic music goes though, this is very much my thing.
Earth Ship: This album technically isn't out until next month, but I'm just loving it. Scratches all doom/sludge/stoner/punk itches all in one, buenisimo. Possible top 10 AOTY material.

Just finished:

PUZIQUe - Don't Go

Meh.

Currently listening:

Donna Summer - Bad Girls

About half-way through this album and there hasn't been a single bad song yet. Thoroughly enjoying this so far.

Next up:

Kingcrow - The Persistence

Huh, now that's something I wouldn't have expected you to dig, where did you find it? :P. Didn't like this one too much for some reason, started out quite nicely but the later tracks just bored me. Give their album Matador a listen tho, very unique blend of chill electronic music with post-rock.

They're signed with the label I work for, which was super shocking to me considering most of the bands I had heard on the label prior to Arms and Sleepers fall under either of the post-metal/sludge metal/doom metal/hardcore labels

I dislike one track on the album, the one with Infidelix, just cause I think his lyrics and delivery are cringy, but that's as far as me disliking anything on here goes, I'm really impressed. I'll check out Matador soon, sure!

EDIT: Actually not sure if they have a permanent contract here but at least that album (Find the Right Place) was released through Pelagic

Wait, you work for Pelagic Records now!? That's cool as fuck. What a label to work for.

Yeah that's the reason I moved to Berlin (did I even say this :lol). It is only a half year placement right now, but it's of course not a very big company, so I'm directly involved with a lot of stuff so consider it as working for them basically. Can't imagine any label I'd rather work for, and one thing I think is really cool is that in college I get a shitton of theory, but I have never been taught by someone like Robin Staps who obviously has a lot of direct personal experience as a musician and has a very different outlook on the music industry than for example a classmate of mine who works in the marketing department for Sony and probably never directly speaks to his boss or has any creative input in the company. But maybe I'm biased cause I'm loving this job so much :metal

Conjurer - The Mire. Yeah, I've given this enough spins, fuck it. This is top 5 of the year for me for sure now and totally has traincore tendencies. Mostly sludge with hardcore and post-metal influences, about 95% harsh vox, but very intricate songwriting with awesome slow, quiet, dark sections to balance out the fast-paced aggression. It's about as good as it gets for me in the extreme metal department.

not a fan of the harsh vocals but overall this is pretty good stuff, though the only two tracks i -really- liked were Drowning/Sinking and Frozen but I'd definitely revisit it, yeah, gonna check out another of their albums too since why not
