Beardfish - Sleeping in Traffic PT.2, The Void

How have I not come across this band earlier?? Fantastic stuff!

:tup Seen them a couple of years ago (2012, I believe) opening for Flying Colors in Aschaffenburg, Germany. They were aweseome! Too bad they called it quits...

Shame really, would have liked to see them live... Oh well, at least they have a great discography, for me to dig into!

On vinyl. For some reason the amplifier I'm playing this on is making all my vinyl ridiculously bass-heavy and muddy. Time to buy a new one someday, I suppose.

I feel like in general the best albums rarely blow your mind on the first 2-3 listens. Not saying new Kimbra is up there that high but usually, at least for me - albums that are impressive on a first listen tend to fade because there's nothing to unpack past the first few listens and other albums tend to grow as they reveal themselves.

With that said everyone has a limit though, I'll give an album five listens and if I don't see anything worth revisiting past that point then I won't. Maybe a return years later to see if my opinion has changed.

I'm finally doing it guys, I will stop delving into random new music and start getting through some roulette albums. I finally have a day without anything planned so the whole day will be devoted to roulette music :metal :metal

Gonna see if I can get through all of these

Will leave some thoughts for all of them later on (if I can even get through all of them)

@Snarky Puppy I have listened to Family Dinner vol. 1 once already but decided I wanted to properly check out the band without different guest artists on every song to get a better grasp of the band. Hope I'm not making a stupid decision here :lol

@King Goat the bonus tracks almost take up as much time as the album :lol are they worth checking out?

Snarky Puppy are basically a live band so their studio stuff is kind of irrelevant :lol. Haven't checked Culcha Vulcha yet, but make sure to listen to We Like it Here, damn good jams there.

Well, I managed to do 6 of them (I also tried Prospekt but turned it off pretty soon) which isn't too bad, on The Sound of Perseverance now.

King Goat: Great stuff all around, very good slow sludgy stuff, wouldn't mind putting this in regular rotation to see if more sticks.
Norma Jean: While also good, a lot of metalcore can get tiresome to me after a while, wouldn't regularly listen to this album in full, but some songs are definitely good enough to save. (doesn't help that an already fairly long metalcore album closes with a long ass tune)
Der Weg Einer Freiheit: Expected to love this and I think I do. Not getting all I want out of it after one listen obviously, but it is good all the way through and not overlong.
kaddisfly: This is one that I had already spinned a couple of songs of prior to this, but never got through the whole album. It's... veeery long, and doesn't feel like it has to be. Kind of bored me sometimes, but some songs are really good.
Mew: This one is really good. Very pleasant listen and can see myself getting addicted to this stuff. I need a follow-up album for this band based on my appeal to this album now guys.
Death: I'm only on the second song but am already demanding for more suggestions for this band. Probably the best album out of the bunch, super technical and innovative but also very rocking. The fast stuff reminds me of Vektor and sometimes early Novembre, but this band offers something more, almost proto prog-deathish.

Prospekt: Oh yeah the reason I couldn't finish this might have been mood-wise, but I couldn't really take those vocals for longer than a couple songs. Pretty good stuff instrumentally but I generally don't love prog-power leaning vocals in high doses.

So glad you like this, it truly is a great album. I don't personally think Death have any albums that sound quite like this. This album was a step away from straight forward death metal, in my opinion. Symbolic is pretty great though. I'd suggest just working backwards. Also try the single Control Denied album Chuck released, it's similar to The Sound of Perseverance but with a more classic metal vocal style.

For Death, try Symbolic and Individual Thought Patterns. Can't go wrong.
