Last Tuesday I started off on a reasonably small listening project: I've picked one album each of the last 10 years (2008-17) and I'm going through them in reverse-chronological order. The albums came surprisingly easily to my mind (except 2014, where I juggled between 3 before finally settling on one), and I managed to avoid repeating bands. This is my progress so far:

(Tue 3 April)
Blackfield: Blackfield V (2017)
Frost*: Falling Satellites (2016)

(Thu 5 April)
The Tangent: A Spark in the Aether (2015)
Enchant: The Great Divide (2014)

(Sun 8 April)
Spock's Beard: Brief Nocturnes & Dreamless Sleep (2013)
Rush: Clockwork Angels (2012)

So many Grave Digger records (pretty much from The Reaper onwards, so the last 14 albums or so).  I saw them open for Blind Guardian a year and a half ago and really loved a few of their songs, but never got around to checking them out.  Holy cow.   :metal :metal :metal

I'm late to the party, but at least I got to see them live, even if I wasn't really into them at the time.

Been listening to a ton of Spoon recently, namely They Want My Soul after binging on Gimme Fiction, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, Kill The Moonlight, and Hot Thoughts. Daisy by Brand New has been in rotation a lot as well.

Fleetwood Mac - The Dance

Because of Bosk and the Fleetwood Mac Drama thread :lol

It's actually really good.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Both of you should try again, most songs doesn't even sound like something that would be played on the radio

Maybe with 2 song from Emotion. I heard Call Me Maybe and some other earlier songs :lol Actually, I heard Good Time on the radio in shop the other day (didn't know it was her) and I thought it had the worst, most generic lyrics ever, even for a pop song. But I had to find it because it was so catchy :blush :P

I find most modern mainstream pop quite bland, and for some reason she has gained more attention than others despite not sounding radically different. Delving into some 80s and 90s stuff, like Kate Bush, Talk Talk, and Björk, I'm amazed at how creative they were while making very catchy music and having quite some airplay (with the obvious singles). Of course there was still lame pop that we have forgotten, so I wonder what pop artists from this era will still be iconic in the future.
