Dream Theater - 12 Step Suite

So I'm not the only one that created that playlist!?!
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Nope!  I had burned the songs onto their own CD a long time ago, but I purged almost all of my CDR's a few years ago, since most of my listening is digital now.  Last weekend I decided that I should create a playlist on my phone, since I have my full collection stored there now in addition to my computer.

Queensryche- The Warning

Believe it or not, I listened to that on vinyl for the first time (seriously) yesterday. The original vinyl, not the remastered. The vinyl sounded so much warmer in comparison to the hollow, thin CD (original) mix.

On a power metal kick lately.  Disc 2 of SDIOT still bores me - I haven't listened to it in full in a very, very long time - probably since the album came out.  I thought I'd give it a try, since I did the 12 Step Suite in full yesterday.

I had this on vinyl from new and always thought the mix was muddy and didn’t do the album justice.

I enjoy me some Electric Wizard but I don't understand some of the hype I've seen, over the years, for Dopethrone. It's fine but it's not the be all and end all that some people make it out to be.

I'm very new to stoner metal, so I don't know if there are better things to listen to, but this album is considered one of the top in the genre. I enjoy every second of it. It is not the kind of sound you can listen to anytime you want. You need the right mood for it. I still have to try to listen to this album while smoking pot.  :P

I like to listen to stoner/doom a fair bit but I'm no expert on the subject. I think I just heard that this album was considered one of the seminal albums of the genre but I was a bit underwhelmed when I heard it. I prefer Witchcult Today and Black Masses.

I know Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley and Sleep - Dopesmoker are two of the most important stoner metal records. First just pure :metal tunes, the second one is a colossal songs, ode to weed, lasting around than an hour, slow riff after slow riff, not something to listen to every day. Boris have two stoner albums with some punk speed and ferocity, Pink and Heavy Rocks, great albums too. Beyond these, I know very little of the genre :P

I know the 4 Kyuss albums and I love them. My favorite is their second one. I also have Sleep on my list to listen to, but I haven't got around to it. Being a single track of 60+ minutes makes it hard.  :P

I don't know.. maybe I'm getting old. Long songs had never been a problem, but I realized that I listen to 20+ minute songs less and less.

You mean the Japanese Boris? I've only found their latest album "Dear". I want to listen to Absolutego and Pink.

Yup, Heavy Rocks is quite stoner-ish and fast-paced, Pink is similar but more punk-ish and shoegazy with some very dreamy sections. Absolutego I've only listened to a bit, but it's just slow drone metal. You can stream their records on YouTube :P

I'm very fussy about music. I never listen to albums on YouTube and only in lossless.  ;D

Lossless is only useful for archival, but yeah YouTube sounds like ass sometimes. There are easy ways to find those albums if you're lucky tho :P
