Today:

John Petrucci - Terminal Velocity
Katy Perry - Smile
Vanishing Point - Dead Elysium
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

Heart: Dreamboat Annie
before that was their version of Stairway To Heaven during the Kennedy Center Honours (which IMHO is infinitely better than LZ could ever do it and my personal favourite rendition of the thing along with Zappa's expertly done parody)
and yes, earlier today I listened to both S/M2 and Terminal Velocity as well. (and didn't enjoy neither of these, to put it mildly)

It has its moments, but overall not something I would return to often, if ever. It was the worst album of the bunch. Although the Exist album was a tad disappointing on first listen.

the exist album is a bit weird, the first half feels like a standard exist album albeit not as compelling, then track 5 onwards they almost completely ditch that aside from spotlight's glow (which is probably the best song) in favor of slower pacing and more straightforward songwriting that i probably overall liked more anyways? i dunno. it is a bit strange to say the least

DT: D/T (the audio bluray version and again: WHAT a difference, infinitely easier to listen to than the CD version, great great mix too. If anyone here (besides myself) is into good sounding albums, the audio bluray has you covered)
Haken: The Mountain (never listened to any album by them, this is now my first one, as it were. Don't know what to think yet)

Feels like a watered down version of The Assassination of Julius Caesar, doesn't reach the same heights but I don't mind, that's a top 3 Ulver record. Still a very nice synthpop album.

It's fantastic, played it three or four times in a row, basically consumed my morning. Convinced me to binge Ulver next, so I will probably go through their discography starting this week. Every track is very good on this new record.

I was gonna put that on right after Flowers of Evil, but FoE was so good that I kept replaying it  :lol

Now it's Immortal by From the Depth. Very good Euro-style power metal, not breaking any new ground whatsoever but I am enjoying it quite a bit. Cheap synth lead sound and vocalist is iffy but the playing is solid and right up there with the early 2000s glory days of power metal like Iron Savior and early Sonata Arctica, if not quite there in terms of songwriting

UFO - 1,2, Phenomenon

John Petrucci - Terminal Velocity

Lynch Mob - Wicked Sensation (refurbed) - don't bother, unless you like good songs with all the life sucked out of them. Had to listen to the original after it to wash the taste out of my ears.

Well, after yesterday blew me away with Ulver's new album, I decided to make this week Ulver Week. Starting with their first album. Not expecting to enjoy much from these black metal records but I gotta see how they evolve over the years. On this first album - at least the first song - I can hear where Alcest got their inspiration from. I could be wrong but I get strong Souvenirs d'un autre monde vibes here.
