Exodus - Pleasures of the Flesh
Exodus - Fabulous Disaster
Exodus - Impact Is Imminent
Magma - Retrospektïw II
NoMeansNo - Wrong
Fates Warning - Live Over Europe
Human by Nature (prog-infused psychedelic metal): https://linktr.ee/hbnearth
Our debut album "Eläimys" is a trip I can whole-heartedly recommend to anyone into Pain of Salvation, Opeth, The Mars Volta, Magma etc.

all four of these have something in common in that they're very proggy & also all too long albums that i can't quite decide if i really like or not
having relistened to all four of them today my conclusion is that two of them seem excellent, one seems really good, and the last is actually kinda meh/not doing anything for me. you can try and figure out which are which if you want

(the first one is Psychonaut - Unfold the God Man btw since no title is on the cover itself)

My 2019 AOTY  :metal

It’s very good, but I think the second half is significantly weaker than the first.

Yeah, though I wouldn't say it's that much weaker, California, The Next Best American Record, The greatest are awesome, and the rest are quite good.

Was just listening to it yesterday, I love the atmosphere and most of the songs are great, but that style for a whole album is a tad too much for me. I prefer the variety of Bloody Kisses even if it's a little inconsistent. Also, what's with the production? There's almost no bass and low frequencies on both albums.

The bass is actually mixed quite loud. It's just a very... unique bass tone. :lol

October Rust is great, love that album. Haven't been able to get into Bloody Kisses unfortunately.

I was quite tired when I wrote that, so I actually meant the drum kick :lol. Like it's barely listenable for some reason, and it's annoying in tracks where it's got some punch rhythmically but can't actually hear it. The whole drum is kinda weakly mixed tbh.

Psychonaut top 5 album of the year TBH

But AOTY so far goes to O’Brother TBH

It's 2018 AOTY AND 2020 AOTY contender

Anyway here are some of my favourite 2020 albums in a siccc 6 grid

New Regarde Les Hommes Tomber is some of the best (post?) black metal I've heard in years.
The top right one is O'Brother - You and I and they honestly topped Endless Light with this one imo, I love moody indie/post-rock with haunting vocals too much not to be completely in love with this. Took a couple listens to grow on me though but it's pretty comfortably at #1 of the year for me now.
Algiers is actually a band Cyril introduced me to with a song I was always a bit lukewarm on.. but when I eventually checked them out I found out they had a very wide sound. I love the crazy range they have from upbeat blues-y stuff, alt rock, gospel/soul and straight up sad indie. The singer is insanely good, and Hour of the Furnaces easily ranks among the best tracks of the year for me.
Katatonia is Katatonia, I guess everyone here knows them anyway.
Bottom left is Technatura by Vulkan and joins the Psychonaut album in that it's a pretty adventurous progressive metal album (doesn't have any post- or sludge unlike Psychonaut though) but is quite long.. but so worth it.
Last one is Kindred by Hexvessel, quite a diverse band, and this latest one has kind of a dark folky approach to it with their usual kind of psychedelic prog rock elements. Monday I found out that their drummer is the drummer of Dark Buddha Rising / Waste of Space Orchestra, which makes this even cooler. At times there's almost a modern Opeth vibe to this album, but still unique.

on my backlog it goes

the regarde les hommes tomber album i didn't like as much as their previous one, but neither... quite do it for me, either. they're solid albums but i guess not what i'm looking for
the new algiers album on the other hand just does nothing for me. s h r u g

Fair e n o u g h

I think a lot of people on this forum would love the Vulkan album (more than I do to be honest). It's one of those albums that you kind of feel that it does feel like prog metal that's been done before.. but very well executed, and a lot of parts zoomed in are damn well-crafted. Sick little bass passages, great vocal hooks, UNIQUE Swedish sung second disc with some cool more moody stuff on it. Rekviem is my favourite track on it for sure

I wondered if I would get a bite  :lol  I was just thinking.............if I had time to do a podcast right now what super obscure album would I grab and that happened to be what came to mind.   Rare indie US classic/power metal from the late 80's.   I guess it's a bit like a more simplistic , less polished Lizzy Borden.
