:2metal:

You know, I think the band just isn't my thing. I like this more than the first album, but it's almost 80 freaking minutes long and no one song really makes an impact. It feels like a full album experience, but everything just kind of drags. It's not bad but it's just uncompelling, that's my first impression. It's well put together... just nothing grips me and says, "Hey, motherfucker. This rocks." Good art though! I'm 5 songs from the end and just want it to stop now. 78 minutes is way too much.

EDIT: And right after I post that, possibly my favorite tune on the album plays: "Loss." I really like this one.

Change of pace! This is so gentle and pretty. Very folky album, soft music.

One of the finest metal albums I've heard all year. Melodeath, but it's dripping with melody and groove and rhythm, and no two songs are alike. The growls are aggressive but not too guttural, the words have enough clarity and enunciation to mostly understand what he's singing. There's an awesome harpsichord + dancey-synth breakdown in the song Sealing Our Fate. The Pt. 2 of the title track at the end of the record is this super triumphant, clouds-parting type of 10 minute epic. What a fucking cool album. Strongly recommended. Have not heard a single person talking about this band or record, so check it out on Spotify.
You basically describe the sound of a lot of Dark Tranquillity albums.... Check out their album Fiction
aka Puppies_On_Acid
I peed next to Ian Mosley and Mark Kelly
Derek Sherinian probably stands 10 feet away from the urinal, shoots from downtown, and announces loudly that he's making history.

I have a backlog, so since you brought it up, I figured I'd knock this out tonight.

Holy hell, this is a fantastic album, and definitely purchase worthy.  :metal :metal

i listened to some of this and mostly i just. don't see anything special about it. sounds very much like standard "power metal with growls" melodic death metal with a slightly proggy edge. nothing they're doing seems very exceptional. i didn't listen to the last three tracks fwiw 'cause i just got bored. comes off as just really average to me.

I recall something similar happened back when To Pimp A Butterfly dropped, and it's still holding up. Curious about this one, listened to a few tracks and sounds really promising but also a tough listen.

Hyborian - Volume II : really like this one, fans of Mastodon and Baroness should give it a try

Dool - Summerland: a Dutch band I really like. Female fronted dark, psychedelic rock. One of my favorite 2020 releases so far.
Could be yearlist material

According to some comments I read it seems like this is the first 10/10 on Pitchfork in the last 10 years.. what that means, I don't really know or care.. but for that scene apparently it's very high regarded. Was gonna see what the hype is about soon, but for now:

Oranssi Pazuzu - Mestarin Kynsi

This is outrageously good. On my second listen, quite easily their best one!
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.
