It's not that I don't like Live And Dangerous, but I honestly must say it's overrated. I think for the time, it was a great live document, but the subsequent live albums from Thin Lizzy that have seen the light of day are even better.

Life is great. The BBC 83 Reading show is the best them. So touching.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Live albums in general are just not really authentic enough. Most are so doctored. It depends on the band, ya know? Dokken is laughable. I mean, George admitted to a buddy of mine at a clinic that the last live record was completely overdubbed vocally by Don, and George himself re-did a lot.

Then again, you have QR on the Empire tour -- they recorded three shows for LIVEcrime, and had two mistakes - Tate sang the wrong lyrics once, and Wilton broke a string once. Otherwise, they could have used any of the three shows recorded by themselves. I don't believe any overdubbing was done, they simply spliced together the best takes of all three nights to make one recording, and then mixed and mastered it correctly.

Fates Warning did the same on its recent live CD. No real overdubs, just picking out the best performances from the European run, and putting together the live release from that. That works.

Alter Bridge -- two shows recorded with an orchestra. They did the same as Fates and QR.

But then, you have stuff like Dokken, which unfortunately more the rule. Dream Theater -- how much did LaBrie go back and sing in the studio on all those live releases. My guess is -- quite a bit. Particularly on stuff that was just one or two shows. Score, etc. It happens, I get it, and I still respect the bands. But it makes "live," so inaccurate. Is Live and Dangerous REALLY live? I doubt it. I hope so, but I doubt it.

That's why if you get a bootleg that is extremely high quality -- that to me is LIVE, and worth its weight in gold.

No problem, Sam. I feel the same way. It's why I can't listen to Breaking The Fourth Wall.

On L&D, just listen to Southbound. It's clearly a studio track.

Same for a couple songs each on Kiss Alive II and UFO's Strangers In The Night.

I really don't mind this change of musical direction from Greg Puciato. He has put out plenty of heavy music, this is incredibly refreshing, has kind of a Depeche Mode/Tears For Fears vibe

I do enjoy this album and I do find it a great listen, I just don't get the urge to revisit that often. I am gutted I missed these guys play ArcTangent earlier this year though  :tdwn

There are some folks around here who really love this album. How did you come across it?

I have the same, I really like that album and it's my favourite Arcane Roots album for sure at this point. Their best song remains If Nothing Breaks, Nothing Moves though. SO fucking POWER

Listened to the new Alithia and Haken albums today, and also the latest Shining and Vennart albums
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

New Shining wasn't great but I don't think it's as bad as some people are making out. I must admit I'm really disappointed with the new Vennart, nowhere near as good as the debut for me. Need to check out the Copeland (or whatever it's called?) EP.

Haken - Vector
Thumpermonkey - Make Me Young, Etc. (+ cassette rarities)

Both came out this Friday, I think it's my second best release day ever, only second to the 15th September of the last year when I had to listen the new The Contortionist, Caligula's Horse and Arcane Roots the same day.

At work I'm listening to the new Vennart and I like it, even if it feels a collection of ten different songs with different styles more than a cohesive album. I listened a lot to the first two singles and I loved them, while Spider Bones is the catchiest song of the new ones I didn't know before. Some songs like the closer will grow on me soon, I think. I get they are great but I couldn't remember them at the moment.
