He can play arpeggios with his ass.

:neverusethis:

EDIT:  Also, Mr. Big has extended their Japanese tour into Europe now.  Tour dates can be found here:  https://www.mrbigsite.com.  Hopefully this in indicative that they will eventually end up touring in the states.

We had one on the last incarnation of the forum, but at the time, they were only to be doing a few shows in Japan.

For anyone interested, their European dates can be found at https://www.mrbigsite.com.

Thread revival:

Just prior to leaving for a Racer X tour in Japan, Paul bid America farewell by playing the National Anthem on has Las Vegas balcony to an audience of unsuspecting neighbors.  On New Years Eve.

You mean, more proof besides having Alice Cooper as your drummer on Scarified?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTDXwypsNYs&feature=related

It never occurred to me how much he looks like Alice Cooper, but yeah, now that you mention it.  :lol

Also, of note, John Alderete is also the bass player for Mars Volta.  A band I've never heard and have a strange feeling I might not like.

Also, he can play the solo to Detroit Rock City with his teeth.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89fvxO0Csz4#t=3m09s

Though it isn't shown in the video, he's said that he and Bruce used to both play the harmony solo with their teeth.

I will also contribute (copied from another thread):

I feel compelled to say once again that, as of three years ago, one of Paul's solos became my all-time favorite guitar solo.  Pretty impressive, given that he bumped Alex Skolnick, Dave Meniketti, and John Petrucci to climb into the top spot.
Upon the Door, was it?
Upon the Door, was it?

Yeah.  I can't remember--have you heard it?  For some reason, I have in my mind that you don't have any of Neal's stuff.  Anyway, you know, I like a lot of more upbeat, shreddy solos too.  But my top two are very slow, melodic, soaring solos that just rip it up over softer melodies (Paul's and then Skolnick's on Return to Serenity).

Oh, and Goldy, if you and Sneak ever change your mind and decide to consummate your relationship, I'm happy to perform a meaningless Internet ceremony for the both of you by the notpower vested in me as forum admin.
I just did a quick search and couldn't find the whole piece.  There are some live clips, but it ain't Paul, so it ain't worth listening.  Here's a short clip with a few second leading into the solo, the solo itself, and then a few seconds afterward.  Still awesome, but it does lose just a BIT of impact without the context of the whole piece.  Anyway, I'm sure you'll still enjoy feasting your ears on it.  Here you go:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7xF6wQ9dzM

Funny thing is, it's definitely NOT the cleanest solo I've ever heard.  But that's part of its appeal to me.  Even though I know every note of it and every phrasing of every note, every time I listen, part of me is like, "He's playing so on the edge, he could just lose control of this thing any second now.  And I know exactly what he's building to, and there's no way he's going to hit it...is there?  IS THERE?"  :lol  Silly description, I know, but that's the best way I can put it.  It's technical, and yet also so emotionally driven and raw that it doesn't just sound overly cerebral and lifeless.  Just a perfect solo.  Anyway, I'll spare you any more rambling.  Obviously, me likey teh solo.
Wow.

That's pretty f*cking badass.  Usually his solos have him written all over them 100% (meaning I could tell a Paul Gilbert solo without actually knowing beforehand that it was him).  This one is that way in places, but not entirely.  Very, very nice.

Here's a clip of a Gilbert/Sheehan solo from last year's Mr. Big reunion.  Unreal.

Be sure to watch it all the way through, for the "human capos" at around 3:20.

I meant to comment on this last time, but didn't.  Paul's playing in this video is amazing as all hell.  Ferocious tone and licks that make your head spin.  The song itself is awesome and, as you said, so true.  :lol

Paul Gilbert will always be my favorite guitarist, he's amazing, he changes up his style of play, he's not pretentious like Yngwie, and you can tell he has a blast whenever he plays.

Just amazing.  DT should count their lucky stars that some of their fans are at this level of unconditional cult worship.

In addition to being a great guitarist, he is freakin' hilarious.  His solo tunes have a great cornball sense of humor to them, in his instructional videos he's a total goof.  Love it.

Paul on drums.

Also Pat on bass, Eric on guitar, and Billy on vocals.  Til the solo, at least.  Awesome.

Mr. Big is currently recording a new album.  The Paul Gilbert Mr. Big (not the Richie Kotzen MB).
