Official THE SWORD Thread v. Used Future
« on: March 20, 2018, 09:09:31 AM »
Anyone else here a big fan of THE SWORD? I saw them headline a tiny club back in 2012, and became a massive fan. Great "stoner" metal that has now moved into a more cerebral spacey hard rock territory. I have to admit, I wasn't a big fan of High Country a few years back, when they made the switch. But it wasn't the direction that bothered me. I just didn't think the songs were there.

But the first two songs off of USED FUTURE, their new album due out this Friday, March 23, seem a bit better. Initial reviews seem mixed, but a tad more positive on the direction and songs.

Looking forward to picking up the record Friday, and I will be seeing them next week.  :metal

I like them, but am not a huge fan. Looking forward to hearing the new album. I may go see them in a few weeks in Minneapolis if I like the new album.

Warp Riders in my favorite. Haven't listened to anything earlier yet though.

Warp Riders in my favorite. Haven't listened to anything earlier yet though.

If I may, the first two albums, Age of Winters, and Gods of the Earth, should be purchased. The fourth album, Apocryphon, as well. High Country, their fifth, is a significant shift in direction.

Yeah, they have started down this trend of trying to be a Stoner Pink Floyd instead of their strength, which is stoner metal. Not sure I like the direction for them. At times, it works. At other times...not so much.

I like the new album better than High Country, but it is the same thing -- more trying to be a prog rock stoner band, rather than distorted stoner metal. I am seeing the show this week. Looks like set is heavy from the last two records. So we'll see how it translates live.
