Puppies_On_Acid's Gentlemen's Roulette! Epilogue
« on: March 12, 2018, 12:04:42 AM »

Welcome to my first roulette.

I would first like to say, I have no idea what I’m doing and have no clue how this will work out :corn, so let’s do this! Everyone is welcome to sign up! There may or may not be Hangmanenenenen and/or album cover guessing games throughout the roulette. Stay tuned.

If you are already signed up you can start sending your songs if you want.

:police: Rules:

1.   10 12 13 12 participants
2.   10 Rounds
3.   Songs rated on a 1-10 scale. And I will use the full scale. If your submission really sucks, you may find yourself getting somewhere in the 1-4 range. I may use half points if necessary.
4.   Submissions – Please PM submissions. I would very much prefer if songs that are submitted are available on Google play music (since I have a subscription to that and use it the most) or files
(320kbps mp3 or FLAC). I will also accept Spotify or YouTube links as a last resort, but this is not preferred, and I may just conjure up those songs sent by those mediums another way... I
listen to most of my music while I am driving for work through Google play music and would prefer to put all submissions in a playlist on my Google Music App.
5.   There will be 2 elimination rounds, one at the halfway point and one before the final round.
6.   Artists will be banned once submitted for the rest of the roulette
7.   Up to 2 people can send the same artist in any given round. Has to be different songs, for obvious reasons (first come first serve)
8.   When sending a song please let me know if there is a specific version I should be listening to (e.g. Live, demo, alternate take, remixed, remastered, etc. etc.)
9.   I reserve the right to reject any submission as I’m sure I have forgotten something that should be on my banned list. Therefor, my banned list may change. Be aware of that. I tried to make it as
thorough as possible, but things get missed.
10.   I may change up the themes on some of the rounds based on feedback of the participants. If everybody hates a particular theme it can be changed, I'm flexible.
11.   Anything that could be considered popular classic rock is straight up banned. I’ve heard it all, trust me.
12.   Have fun

If you have any questions on the rules or need any clarification or if I just plain forgot something, don’t hesitate to ask or let me know.

:metal Music Tastes:

My tastes range pretty much the full gamut of music. I’m mostly in to Prog and Metal or some mixture of the two and all their various sub-genre’s. I also really like a lot of Alternative Rock, Electronic music, Classic Rock, Ambient, Post-rock, Indie Rock, Classical, Dream Pop, Synth Pop, Jazz, Blues, Downtempo, Funk, and the list goes on. Mostly what I don’t like is Country music, especially Modern Country (although some older classic Country I’m OK with) and about 99.9% of Radio Pop (Top 40 crap). Basically, you take your life in to your own hands if you decide to send me Country or Radio Pop. A lot of Hip-Hop is hit or miss with me, but I do enjoy a lot of it, just be careful if you go down that route. I also recommend you check out my last.fm profile to get a better idea of what I have been in to recently, it’s linked in my sig.

Some things I have been looking for: Epic black/folk/Viking metal similar to Moonsorrow, Havukruunu or Finsterforst. Folky atmospheric metal similar to Agalloch. Bands with really slick guitar work similar to Dire Straits, Dave Matthews Band, or John Butler. Prog metal that isn’t all about being super technical all the time. You may be at a disadvantage if you try to find something that fits these because I am looking for very specific things.

:justjen The Rounds
(subject to change)
(all themed rounds are open to interpretation by each participant)

Round 1 – Open (15-minute limit)
Round 2 – Female Vocalists (there can be male vocalists, but it has to be a lead female vocalist) (15-minute limit)
Round 3 – Instrumental (Spoken Word is OK) (15-minute limit)
Round 4 – Non-Metal/Rock (10-minute limit)
Round 5 – Open (15-minute limit)

Cut-off Point (bottom 3 are cut)

Round 6 – Epic (Technically no limit, but be reasonable)
Round 7 – It’s all about SPEED! (10-minute limit)
Round 8 – How heavy can you go! (20-minute limit)
Round 9 – EP Round

Cut-Off Point (Bottom 3 are cut)

Final Round – Album Round (Technically no time limit but keep it reasonable. I don’t really want any 5-hour long albums…)

EP round rules
- Minimum of 3 songs
- Minimum of 30 minutes. Maximum of 40 minutes
- It is an open round, so no theme, but I would recommend coming up with some kind of theme (lyrical content, style, genre, etc.) for your EP, this could help with flow/cohesiveness
- The EP must contain at least 3 different artists and can not contain more that 2 songs per artist
- each EP will be scored on a 20 point scale
- flow/cohesiveness will be taken in to account and can net you up to an additional 5 points
- The EP containing my favorite song will get 1 additional point
- I may or may not give an additional half point for creativeness of your EP's title

Damn, that's a pretty good banned list. Do we start sending as soon as everyone is in? I'm gonna work on my playlist today so if you say we can send anytime I'll probably do it today so I don't forget later.

Reminder, you probably can't count on me for sending good classic prog rock :lol

Sure, count me in.  Your banned list seems at least mildly compatible with my tastes.  Plus, you're gonna need some solid / traditional prog, power, and metal (and sometimes a combo of all three) to balance out your submissions.

I was going to leave sign ups open until Sunday, but I don't think a preliminary round would be exactly fair for those of you that had already signed up in the tracker thread. I think I'll go ahead and start this as soon as there are 10, which I'm only waiting on soupytwist to confirm. You can go ahead and send now if you would like.

I actually didn't realize only three rounds are open when I signed up (was in a hurry), and I'm not really ok with that because they limit me too much.

8. Soupytwist (tentative)

I'm happy to do this - but I'm kind off restricted to sending my submissions via Spotify links.  If that is going to be a problem for you, or I'm taking the place of someone better suited then I'll sit this one out.    Your call.

I also just now let him know that I'm restricted to Youtube/Spotify links, I mean I can also convert them to mp3 and send that but it's essentially the same thing, I don't have google play so dunno how it works exactly.

Anyway, just sent some good mu5ic

Seeing how I miss some of the roulettes because of my time zone and work, can I sign up for yours in advance? But only if it's not a straight up "one round - one elimination" roulette.

Can't you just take Luoto's place? Pretty sure he just dropped out because of the theme restrictions

I missed that! Hey, in that case I'd like to join. I don't have any vacations planned so I won't drop out midway like I did in Sacul's.

Every round will be a whole album?  That should be interesting. Better you than me - if I were to try to listen to 80-100 new albums in 2-2.5  months it really wouldn't go so well. :) Assuming it's 8 to 10 rounds and 10 participants.

Well, I guess I jumped the gun on this a little bit. I didn't think I would get this much interest. So I'm going to expand the participants list to 12 to include Evermind and Sacul.

8. Soupytwist (tentative)

I'm happy to do this - but I'm kind off restricted to sending my submissions via Spotify links.  If that is going to be a problem for you, or I'm taking the place of someone better suited then I'll sit this one out.    Your call.
Don't worry about only sending Spotify links. I can always find other ways of getting the songs on to my Google Play playlists. So you are in!

For those of you that can send mp3's instead of Spotify/Youtube that would be preferred but not necessary.

Don't forget that themed rounds are negotiable. I want to make this as fun for everyone as possible. If there is a particular theme that most of you have an issue with just let me know and we can discuss changing the theme or just making the round open.

My vote is that the themes are perfectly fine just the way they are.

I think they're fine, personally.

I'll send mine after I sleep off this headache. I have some pretty interesting ideas that I hope you haven't heard before.
