Someone diagnose me
« on: March 02, 2018, 09:02:10 PM »
Long story short: I got sick as a dog late Monday, missed work Tuesday (felt like death) and Wednesday (felt better, but still had a bad fever at times), and have been on the slow up climb since.  Still feel blah, but I can tough it out at work.  Doc said it was a really nasty sinus infection, for which I have been taking antibiotics since Wednesday.

Around 4:50 today, I suddenly feel shitty again and wasn't more than a minute or later when I got this major pain in my chest, right above the solar plexus on both sides.  For about a minute, I was nearly doubled over wondering what the hell was happening, so I decided to stand up and see how that would go.  I stood up and all of a sudden things got really dizzy and the next thing I know, two of my co-workers are trying to keep from falling.  I have no recollection of that 30 seconds where I apparently walked about 25 feet and was about to walk dead straight into a wall before one of them, seeing the supposed blank look on my face (he later said I literally looked like someone who had zero idea of what was going on), jumped up and stopped me, while the other ran over to help, when my consciousness came back.  They slowly lowered me to the ground and I was like, "Give me a minute."  I literally laid there for about a minute, felt okay, got up and assured them that I felt okay again (which I did).  However, one of them insisted on driving me home, which he did, as neither thought I was okay to drive, and quite frankly it would have made me nervous as well.

Since leaving work in his car, I have felt fine (outside of the still trying to recover from the sinus infection thing).  Family of course thinks I should go to the ER, but I was like, "Nah, I am okay now." I was probably just malnourished (I have barely eaten since Monday, have no appetite) and/or dehydrated (busy day at work, so I didn't think to keep drinking water all day like I normally do).

Junior MDs, feel free to diagnose away.

Sounds like an acute case of sissiness.

Honestly, might be bad flu with a infection in your lungs. The falling down might be blood pressure related.

I suppose. Just seemed like an awfully extreme reaction.

And I won't lie; it scared the shit out of me.  Even scarier is that had it happened 10 minutes later, I would have been in my car driving.  That could have been disastrous.

Let me just write you a prescription for two testicles. Should clear everything up.

But yea, it's super scary when it happens. The flu and so forth might be responsible for screwing with your iron levels as well your blood pressure. That can easily result in what you experienced.

I say this with no medical training.

Pneumonia or walking pneumonia are guesses without knowing much more of what went on earlier in the week.  The fainting bit, due to de-hydration after days of suffering, sound similar to something I experienced eons ago.

Go to a darn doctor.  Sleep.

Then again, the two testicles bit is sound advice......

...going along with Dragon Attack's Queen thread has been like taking a free class in Queen knowledge. Where else are you gonna find info like that?!

Pneumonia was the first thing to pop into my mind, I've had it a few times, once fairly severe, and it followed a similar pattern. Got sick, thought I felt better, then the chest pain. I didn't have that severe disorientation though.

Make a ginger/lemon/honey tea. I almost never get sick, but when I do I drink this tea and it cures everything. Whether it is inflammation/infection, cough, fever, weakness, etc.

God damn, dude!

@Kev. Don't y'all have Doc-in-the-boxes up there? I don't know as I'd hit an ER, but an urgent care center of some sort is exactly the right call for something like this. A couple of vials of blood and piss, hopefully from different sources, along with a chest xray should settle the matter right up. Peace of mind is worth the effort in my book.

I went to Urgent Care this morning (where there was no wait, surprisingly).

EKG showed that everything was fine, and it sounds like I had vasovagal syncope (google can explain it better than I can :lol).  Sounds like recovering from the illness and the bit of coughing I did yesterday (thanks to my throat clearing up) caused my heart rate to get all crazy there for a brief moment, which led to the episode.  The fact that I have been fine since shows that it was in all likelihood an isolated incident.
