High-quality album artwork (a PSA)
« on: March 30, 2022, 09:47:06 PM »
Hey all, just wanted to share a recent discovery of mine since I bet it'd be useful to some others on here.

Recently I've been going through my iTunes library and doing a pass on the image size/quality for all my album artwork. Screens keep getting higher-resolution after all, and some of the 500x500 pixels art I've used since the early 2010s just wasn't cutting it any more.

Normally my process for finding album art is just doing a google image search for the album and finding the best-quality image I can, but man, for some albums (particularly older ones) that's just not possible. Most of the stuff on there is well below 600x600 pixels and the really big images are often what look like crappy printer scans of the covers with bad colors and visible dust and whatnot.

Eventually, I found this website: https://fanart.tv/. It is a fucking godsend.

If you search an artist's name on there, unless they're super obscure they'll have 1000x1000 pixel uploads of all of their album covers, usually in perfect quality. And it's usually not just albums; they'll have the art for singles and sometimes even CD disk artwork. All free to download, of course. There's some artwork on there I can't find high-quality versions of anywhere else on the internet.

tl;dr if you need to download album art, fuck Google Images. Use https://fanart.tv/.

I use a host of sites for my artwork. I start with Amazon. I can usually get artwork between 1200x1200 to 1500x1500. I also try the Pandora website. Have gotten a good amount of stuff from there in 1000x1000 size. Hitting up an artists Facebook gallery sometimes is a winner. HD Tracks website has also been decent at getting good size artwork. If the artist has a Bandcamp that is almost always a winner.

Lastly, is this site:

The artwork comes in all shapes and sizes. The file sizes tend to be a bit too high for my tastes. You need a free account to use it.
beul ni teh efac = Lube In The Face / That has to be wrong.  :lol / EDIT: Oh, it's Blue! I'm an idiot.
Pardon the interruption, but I just had to run in and celebrate the majesty of Lube in the Face as highest moment in roulette history

Nice! I often have to manually upload album art.
