I guess I know the lyrics to every Disney song by heart, have uncontroversial opinions, love hidden details and am willing to forgive subpar songs for really great ones, like experimental music, and don't miss Mike Portnoy. Let's go in order:
1) Okay, so first of all: Disney has 200 songs so you really just learn the highlights if you want to preserve your sanity. Secondly: have you actually listened to Disney songs? Like...really listened? The lyric writing is amazing (there's a reason why Tim Rice and Howard Ashman are frequently cited as among the best lyricists ever), the songs are BEYOND catchy, and there's a lot of really intricate stuff going on in the accompaniments (which are usually very dense orchestrations). They sound pretty much exactly what the lovebaby of Broadway Showtunes and Film Music would sound like. I honestly just don't understand why metalheads throw around comparisons to Disney like it's an insult. And finally, guilty as freakin' charged.
2) The Astonishing is my favorite Dream Theater album.
3) No argument there.
4) Depends on what kind of experimental we're talking about. I can eat up some Close to the Edge, Kate Bush, SDoIT, or Aphex Twin's saner stuff but I'll take a hard pass on a lot of what is considered experimental. Like modern classical. Or most Radiohead. So...maybe?
5) Yeah, I don't care. Good music is good music, no matter who the drummer is.
Also, Evanescence's "Fallen" is a good album and I don't care what anyone says. Fight me. (their other albums are really mediocre though, so fair enough)
