My wife (casual Red Sox fan) asked me after the game last night why David Price didn't get credit for the win. I explained that a starter has to go at least 5 innings to get the win. She said that's stupid, and I said that's been the rule forever.
But I have to agree that it's kind of a stupid rule. A reliever can get credited with a win no matter how many or few innings he pitches, so why impose this arbitrary minimum on only the starter?
I suppose this is pissing in the wind since to change the rule at this point in history would screw up a lot of statistical analysis, but it does seem fundamentally flawed.
Also, GO DODGERS!!! Big game tonight. Hopefully Buehler bounces back from his crappy outing against Atlanta and that our hitters wake up.
