Yeah, I heard that this morning.  Crazy.  I'm glad you got out when you did.  That type of thing is almost always a sign of imminent collapse.

If the collapse doesn't happen this year, it will surely happen next year. Oil production it's at its lowest, 750K per day and it is not secret that Venezuelan economy it's sustained by that production alone

So sorry, man.  It must be heartbreaking to see one's homeland going through something like that.

1,000,000%. That's incredible.
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

Yes, it totally is heartbreaking dude. And more knowing we still have our loved ones there.
This is my sister in law a couple years back (2013)
This is my sister in law a month ago in her wedding:

And no, she isn’t under regime of nutrition, it’s the power of socialism to starve our people.

We send them money from time to time (would love to do it periodically but I also have to provide for my wife, sons and dad)

When we arrived here in Lima if I send them 1 sol (currency of Peru) they would receive 64500 VEF (Venezuelan currency) today 1 sol = 955000 VEF

Minimum monthly wage in Venezuela 8 millions VEF - what can you purchase with 8 millions? 30 eggs and 2 gallons of milk

As a Colombian we see the consequences of this in our country everyday. Hundreds of Venezuelans come here in hopes of a better life (Not that they're going to find something completely better here anyway, but it's not worse). We aren't prepared for this as a country (Specially since it used to be the other way around in the 70s-80s: Colombians fleeing to Venezuela) and the government isn't really saying what the immigrant situation is in here publicly.

Just so the rest of the guys ITT can imagine the inflation: Some Venezuelans in Bogota sell wads of Venezuelan Bolívares for the equivalent of 1 or 2 dollars for people who are into Numismatics here. It's baffling and it's not even the tip of the iceberg

Sorry to hear this, man. I was wondering if you know whatever thing happened yesterday in the Caracas blackout. It seems that something important happened and the News are talking about it here but I can't really understand what it was.

Why is Venezuela "on our doorstep?" Areh

Largely agree with everything else. I am anti-socialist in the US for many reasons, but I don't fully support the "See look at this shithole that can happen here!" as a sole argument against it, any more that "See, this works in this other country, it should totally work here!" There are plenty of other more rational arguments to be made against socialism in the US. Which will not be discussed in this non-P/R thread.

Quote
President Maduro and PSUV can count on the support of maybe a third of the population, at best. A vast majority of Venezuelans, those that still live in the country anyway, are against this government within varying degrees of disdain.

There is a third of the population who support this leadership? And the rest are against it WITHIN VARYING DEGREES?

Been seeing this on the news lately. I blame the rest of the South American countries for letting this happen though I'm not sure what they could have done to help prevent it. How longer can this thing last?

Yeah, seeing the stories of Maduro getting overthrown or something and immediately thought of Mini. Came here to see if he had checked in with an opinion on what is going down. On the surface, this looks good, but I want his opinion as someone who is close to the situation.

Lots of great things happening in my country. USAand lots of other countries are helping my people.
Next feb 23th it’s the day when humanitarian aid will enter my country despite all the things Maduro and company are doing to prevent it.

I think Venezuelan government it’s coming to an end SOON

At the border with @MarioDB & @AmbCTrujillo. Those containers behind us were put there by a terrorist, criminal regime. It isn't going to work. Food and medicine will reach the people of #Venezuela. https://twitter.com/marcorubio/status/1097251212829868034/video/1
