Kev, you've heard the story of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic?"
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'.” - Bob Newhart
So wait, we're spelling it wrong and king is spelling it right? What is going on here? :lol -- BlobVanDam

I can see not liking Roxanne. It’s not one I particularly like either. Some major grating factor on that verse. But the chorus is really catchy and the “Roooxaanne” line is certainly one of the most memorable and recognize-able hooks in rock music. That episode of Community where they have a party at Troy’s and explore all the alternate timelines illustrates that vividly!

The record label didn't hear a hit and asked to have an "Uplifting" song added.

Shocking.  Labels are idiots.  Remember when INXS recorded Kick? Their label offered them 1 million dollars to chuck it and go write and record a whole new album. Geniuses.  :lol :lol

My favorite Police song is Secret Journey.

That's a top song.

For me, the "Roxanne" is just about the vocal.  I think Sting is a great singer; my friend - who idolizes him, basically - and I agree that he's a fantastic singer (and the world's best background vocalist).   But that one song is just grating.    I personally also have a problem with that time in '85, '86 when he was distancing himself from The Police, playing guitar instead of bass (he's an excellent bass player as well) and that was one of the few songs that seemed to get aired and it just epitomized for me all that was wrong with The Police and that short period after.

5?

Police is another one of those bands that there might be a handful of songs that don't thrill me but the rest of it is pure bliss.
