No, it was Sgt. Hoothoot and the Pokemon Fanclub

Told you we wouldn't finish hung man before I would start doing writeups, time to kick it off! :corn :corn :corn :corn

I had to be really cautious not to pick a song that still had a chance to end up in the bottom 2 or the round winner, so this one is somewhere in the middle but leaning more towards the top side of things. Everything is still really close.

This song here was a really interesting mix between Addicted-type Devy music and Death Cab for Cutie, yeah, that's the best way I can attempt to describe it. The general vibe I get is really soothing, harmless in a positive way, and just really fun. I'm talking of course about the giraffe song.

Yeah you did, don't think I liked it as much but it's been a long time ago that I heard it.

I'm pretty sure which song I'm kicking out and I feel bad about it cause I still like that tune, but let's get on with the writeups!

I had a problem with this one at first. First off, I had some frame of reference seeing as I'm familiar with a couple of songs by this band already. Compared to those, it was a real slow burner, and after the first 2 listens I just got impatient waiting for the great ending to kick in. Eventually it grew on me and I kind of got an Arcane Roots vibe off it. The vocals by this band are instantly recognizable but never really spectacular, but the instrumental outro is what really took me by surprise here and carried me over.

Dream the Electric Sleep - Elizabeth, sent by LordCost is through, moving on to the next one!

The best way I can describe this is a Brittish an inferior alternative to Converge, I guess. But it's still great, awesome bass section in the middle, nice little guitar passages and pounding riffs. Sick halftime tempo shenanigans going on at the end, etc. Just a good super short aggressive little song.

I could only be talking about In the Belly of a Shark by Gallows here. Luke, you're in! :corn

1. Mew - The Zookeeper's Boy
2. Gallows - In the Belly of a Shark
3. Dream the Electric Sleep - Elizabeth

Announcing the winner and one other song in my next update, and then 2 more at the end of the day. Bottom two will be either on Sunday or Monday, depends on my workload and spare time.

Oh yeah be aware that from here on, time limit moves up to 12 minutes, so you can send me that juicy lengthy stuff if you feel like it

Yeah long songs are probably a double-edged sword.

Round winner was pretty easy to pick this time. This sounds like a band that found a pretty unique sound that works very well for them, they don't sound like the bands I would lump into this category at all, in a good way. I would describe the music as very brooding, and just a mishmash of ideas that works really well together. I wouldn't say it's top 3 roulette material just yet, but it's definitely this participant's best song yet even though he wouldn't agree.

Oneirodynia by Aenaon sent by Parama wins the round :corn

This one is very much my kind of music. I wouldn't say it blew me away, but it had great energy and really catchy vocals, especially that "sailing the seas of nostalgia" line got stuck in my head all the time. These guys are technicians, but they know when to calm it down, that's quality progmetal to me.

Lonestar, with The Sound of Glaciers Moving by Corelia gets a pass!

1. Aenaon - Oneirodynia
2. Mew - The Zookeeper's Boy
3. Corelia - The Sound of Glaciers Moving
4. Gallows - In the Belly of a Shark
5. Dream the Electric Sleep - Elizabeth

Four more songs are left:

* Boris - Ibitsu
* Enshine - Resurgence
* Messa - New Horns
* While Heaven Wept - Vessel

Very catchy song this one, also pretty harmless. For this reason it was kind of middle ground of the round, but I still really enjoyed it. It does tend more towards the "enjoy but probably not getting into this artist very soon" category moreso than the obsessive category, but it's a good song. Nice melodic guitarwork, catchy vocal hooks, and the fast sections are a nice subtle way to shake up the standard format of the song ever so slightly.

Tomi, you're through once again, with Vessel by While Heaven Wept!

Next one I actually considered to declare safe way earlier but just never really got to it. There was never any doubt that this one would end up in the bottom 2. Crushing vocals and interesting instrumentation throughout. Lots of ideas thrown in there but it never felt like a jumbled mess. Particularly well-constructed atmosphere in this song, I'm a huge fan of that euphoric wall of sound feel with layered harsh vocals if they execute it well like they do here. Though I wouldn't say it's among your best submissions I still dug it and will probably check out the album right after my roulette.

Enshine with Resurgence, sent by TAC, gets to breathe again which leaves us with the last two!

I've actually given the songs even more listens now and come to the conclusion that I still don't know which one I will be cutting, they're that close, and quite different stylistically. I am probably going to give them like 2 or 3 more listens over the next 24 hours and get it over with.

The final showdown is between Sacul and Elite with the following songs:

Boris - Ibitsu (Sacul)
Messa - New Horns (Elite)

Root for your favourite as you will all have to wait in suspense for another day! Loser will be announced tomorrow evening (roughly 24 hours from now). Rest of you can of course start sending for next round (12 minute time limit from here on), I've gotten 1 song so far (had 2 but the second requested to resubmit to save their submission for another round) so I need 7 more (one of which would either be Sacul or Elite but we don't know yet).

I don't know what it was, but when I heard the Enshine last year, I loved it. The vocals, surprisingly, did not bother me at all. I thought the music is so cool and mesmerizing, almost like a Pink Floyd with growls. And even though they are growls, somehow they don't manage to be in your face. I love this album.
