For Those Of You Who Don't Have Room For CDs...

...Where do you buy digital music from? I've been using Amazon for years and a few years ago I started using Bandcamp. Bandcamp is my first choice if I can't find anything on Amazon.

I use amazon.  They pretty much have everything in MP3 and it's simple and often well priced.  (I think it was Alestorm this year who I bought the CD because for some reason the MP3s were more expensive, but that's not the norm).

I still buy CDs (given the album I want isn't available in 24 bit or cheaper on CD), but I use either highresaudio.de (which is similar to hdtracks) or Bandcamp

I don't use Amazon because in past experiences some mp3s were under 256kbps. VBR, but still, that bugs me. That might not be the case anymore.

Bandcamp, Itunes, or the bands website. Sometimes the band will have a link to buy a digital download.

I actually prefer Bandcamp and wish more artists would utilize this platform because of the sound quality. It's like Myspace for music.

Don't sleep on Qobuz.  I get good lossless material from there, sometimes hard to find elsewhere.

I don't really care for lossless audio.  320 MP3 is perfectly fine for me.  I think the benefit of bandcamp is more money goes to the artist?  I just haven't always been able to find what I want there and sometimes I just don't even think to look there over amazon.

If I can't get a physical product on Amazon (for ease), I'll always try and use Bandcamp first for any music purchase, whether physical or digital. Just because more money goes back to the artist.

There's this great metal band called Lost Domain that TAC turned me on to a few years back. Just bought their new album on bandcamp to just keep supporting them.

There's a way to change the download quality but I think you're right that they don't offer 320kpbs which is odd.

First I transferred my cd's to be digital.

Then I would buy mp3s from Itunes and amazon.

Now I just use Spotify for what I don't have. I think I am done buying albums and will just use streaming going forward.

I miss buying CDs and I could just put CDs in those huge CD/DVD Binders (which I started doing years ago) but then I'd have no real space for the cases. Years ago during The Great Purge, I threw out every CD case I had but kept the booklets for nostalgia. Shit, if there was some type of offer where I could just buy the official CD (at a cheaper price) in a generic case with no booklet, I'd probably do that.

Sort of related... but my wife and I were evaluating the space in our living/TV room, and I realized I have all my CDs and DVDs on one of the bookshelves, where they have been since we bought them 10 years ago, and I cannot recall the last time I took out a CD. I like having them there aesthetically, but admitted we could probably be better utilizing the shelf space.

Yeah, my CDs on my shelf in the basement haven't been touched since I put them there like 8 or so years ago. But I live alone so I can do what I want, for now.  At some point, they'll probably go to a box though.

Damn, that makes my collection look tiny.  I did sell about half my CDs throughout my childhood which I regret but even if I held onto them, it wouldn't be quite like that.
