No cash. I use checks from accounts that have been closed for at least three years.

Seriously, I go anywhere from $100 to $200 depending on how close the person/how old/etc. If my 60 year old cousin gets married for the third time, probably $100. If it's my cousin's daughter, who is, what 22 or something, and I used to dress up as Santa Clause when she was a kid, she might get $200.

Piggybacking off that question: I'm broke as hell and have a wedding to go to on June 2nd, and also have other things I have to save for. I can maybe scrounge up $50 absolute max. Would that be okay? It's for a friend I've known most of my life, not a best friend, not somebody I hang out with often but a great guy who I've known for almost 25 years and know his family very well. I feel like that's pennies for a wedding gift but it's honestly all I can offer.

I would give the $50 and not lose a moments sleep over it. You're not required to take out a home equity line of credit to gift at a wedding.

I was actually going to try and mention that to my uncle in private, but I wouldn't dare considering how hard headed he is.

He's 44 and she's 30 with 5 boys from multiple fathers. He's already been divorced once and that one went down in flames, but he "knows what he's doing", so I am staying quiet and will be all smiles as he walks down the aisle.

Is it normal to give people cash for their wedding? That seems weird to me, but everyone is talking like it's the thing to do, so maybe I'm the weird one. I've given gifts, and I suppose it would be easy enough for them to figure out how much it costs, but never cash.
