Nice, and yea, that's a very good manager going to battle for your guys.

I got a raise today! 4.4% which is much better than any previous yearly raise I've gotten as my year review was also much better than previous ones (I have no idea why I got rated more highly than before as I feel my work efforts have slightly gone down over the years) but I am happy with it.  Also they changed our stock option plans so part of my raise also include stock that is just given to me, not options that I need to buy.  So for that, I am even happier.

Funny thing, I never tried.  I saw other friends and saw how it affected them and I said no bleeping way.

This is me; I had a pretty varied group of friends in college (I didn't really hang with my dorm mates, I hung with another dorm) so I saw a lot.  One crowd were drinkers (my crowd), one crowd were the Dead Heads (shrooms, weed), and one crowd were the harder drugs.  Those guys were fucked up, man.   It just wasn't a world I wanted to hang in.   No judgment , you be you, but in my little pea brain, cocaine really is the Devil's Dandruff.  I didn't mind being around drunks, I didn't mind being around people that were high, but being around people coked up was a) never fun, and b) almost never led to anything good.   It always seemed so... dark. 

EDIT:  Plus Lenny Bias died when I was a freshman (well, summer between freshman and sophomore) so there's that role model, too.

In college, one of my first friends in my dorm that I met day 1 and had gotten along with.  We used to smoke weed together and after a couple months, asked me to do coke with him.  It's not my thing at all, I said no, so he started hanging out more with two other people in our dorm.  A few months later, 2/3 of them dropped out of college and the other 3rd need a lot of help to get off the drug.  Some people I've known defended coke as a natural drug, but I've always thought it was super addicting and maybe "too much" for me.  I've had no desire to do anything besides marijuana.

I should also add that I am so not into doing any sort of Pills.  I went to a work outing a couple weeks ago and there was lots of boozing and I was with a group of guys near the end of the night and next thing I know they are all taking pills and asking what I want, they had everything and called one guy "The Doc"  Honestly felt really uncomfortable.  I said no, and I don't think any judgement was made, but it was really odd and I almost felt like I was peer pressured a bit like in high school to smoke weed (which actually I didn't do, until I finished high school).

I've never had even a slight desire to try anything beyond weed, and even that I didn't dabble in until my last semester in college. Saw one of my hallmates freshman year crush up and snort some adderall before going out for the night once and it kind of freaked me out.

Welp today is a big day for me, I ordered my gf's engagement ring so it should be here in a few weeks and I plan on popping the question at our vacation in Napa.

I also got confirmation of my raise today so I get it at the end of April along with a new job title. I'm at a shock honestly because they have promising this position to me for months and usually just ignore it after a while and don't say anything, this time I have it writing.
