Got a shipment of 3 pallets of random boxes from Tokyo, essentially our entire very small data center we had their that my boss decommissioned last month and all the stuff he saved made it here today.  And surprise, I need to dig through all of it to find the one item I need to install immediately without any notice.  Half the boxes were labelled in Japanese  :lol but luckily I found it in one of the first ones I opened so it wasn't as bad as it looked like it was going to be.  Install is happening now, but the positive about work today, is they are giving everyone a paid holiday Friday the 22nd.  We already have the whole following week off as the company gives everyone a legit winter break so that just extends that by a day, which is really awesome and generous.  I think I have one more vacation day to burn so maybe add that Thursday.

I got some much needed blobbing in today. About to get up and go cook dinner though. Challenge is not to drink too much before the food's done :lol

I'm sorry, but "devout Christian" or not, there are very few people in this world that (seem to be) cooler than Alice Cooper.  I saw him on Road Trips with Sammy Hagar, and he just seems so.... level headed and down to earth.  Self-aware, humble...

Watched an interview with him on Eddie Trunks show around the time when he played here last summer and he comes off as such a cool person, great performer as well.  Thought his show was much better than Deep Purple who played after him.

I actually admire the person Alice Cooper. Aside his impressive musical catalog, he's very intelligent, as you said level headed, and all around one of the most brilliant minds of the scene. I love how this almost 70 years old dude, with wife and children, who plays golf, supports difficult youths, and never ever went back to the booze or any kind of vice after he quit, from time to time puts on the mascara, the make-up, the extravant clothes and becomes the ultimate wickedly funny entertainer.

He speaks of Alice Cooper in third person, not  because of pride or vanity, but because to him (Vincent) Alice Cooper is a character, a persona. He's fully aware of that, he knows when to be Vincent and when to be Alice, on the other hand many people just don't know where to stop - to quote him from an interview I've read, Jim Morrison was Jim Morrison all the time, and well, he's dead at 27 and Alice next February hits 70.

I agree with all of that, but the greatest thing?  And something that many can't pull off (as much as I love him, Paul Stanley falls into this category):  it never rings false.   When you have a guy "playing a character" like that, it is SO easy to fall into a rut and rely on clichés to the point where it's just a joke.  I might even put Ozzy here (the "Prince of Darkness!" Ozzy).   Alice seems to have found that perfect middle ground where it doesn't come off like a gig or an act.

So I'm loving this Alice Cooper talk. Thought I'd share a picture of me shaking hands with the man, taken literally 21 years ago. He was totally cool too. I was dreading some sort of let down, but it was an even cooler experience than I could've imagined. He had a great comment when I handed him my Zipper Catches Skin CD cover. He said, "I don't even remember making that".

He was doing an appearance at Spooky World. This was 1996, and it was held out in East Bumfuck, Masachusetts. It was all sorts of exhibits of horror movies/Halloween type stuff. They always had people like Elvira, the guy who played Jason, etc... The night we went, we also saw that big dude from the James Bond movies. When I found out Alice was coming, it was a must go to.

In later years, Spooky World was actually set up in the Gillette Stadium parking lot.

So I'm going through the awful process of applying to internships. Got the worst rejection e-mail today ever.

Why was it the worst? Because the subject of the email was "interview".

The rejection letter had a subject that just said "interview".

Come on.

Nope! Because "you suck" wouldn't have made me think I was getting an interview only to find out I wasn't.

Yea, the internship is the final year of the program. It's insanely competitive.

I'm trying like hell to get out of California with it, hoping to end up East Coast, but knowing my luck I'll end up somewhere awful like Boston.

...actually I applied to Boston, hoping to get an interview there.

Nice that you met him!  :hefdaddy and well, even Wikipedia quotes him as saying that he doesn't remember making Special Forces, Zipper Catches Skin and DaDa, he was really lost in a bottle in those times. Luckily he came out of it and stayed sober ever since!

What the hell? What's wrong with California? We have all the best fires....
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
