Pretty good. Not perfect by any means, but definitely more good batches than bad. I've also been dabbling with mead making a bit, which is fun and also easier than beer.

Nah, never got around to getting certified as a judge. I was taking the classes last year, but then it turned out that the day of the exam was the same day as a beer festival in Maine that I wanted to go to with my friends, so I skipped the exam. Haven't felt motivated to get back to studying and finding another exam opportunity. I don't mind working in a support capacity at competitions for now.

I saw this conversation and thought it might be time for a theme change. Went for the red Astonishing theme, it brought back memories of when the album came out, the e-mails from the resistance and the emperor, the reveal website, etc.

I learned today that a friend of mine lost everything in the Fire in Malibu. Really cool guy. Had a house in the hills, a vineyard on his property and a Bed n Breakfast. Horses. Recording Studio. All gone.  They got out with the clothes on their backs.

His daughter was even injured in a car accident during the evacuation. Holy crap.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
