I told myself I'd wake up at 6am and get a head start on my massive amounts of work I need to do. Today seems to really be the start of the new year as I am done with my sickness of the last two weeks and the workload is now expected to get completed. Yet, I didn't wake up until 7:45. Ooops. Oh well, I am solo the next three weeks and have 2.4 million dollars of the latest generation of server and network equipment that I need to get running. Let the fun begin.

We purchase the racks fully loaded and cabled already, the work these guys do would qualify for cableporn (I've seen the reddit and have done plenty of nice cable work myself but not quite as good as what's on there). They do such an awesome job and the new design is a real pain in the ass for cabling, but they still nailed it well. Most of my job is on the network side and setting up the servers to be accessible to our data base and we have automation tools to install base OSs on them once I get the network online. Then it's off to systems engineering to do the real software work and get the servers doing whatever they are supposed to do (this case, all my hardware is for ad serving).

Today I've got everything powered up (the power up process is a PITA just because I am not allowed to touch any of it and I need the building engineers to confirm everything before they energize new racks). Got half of my network configs approved by engineering (the other half I wrote up but didnt put in for approval yet since Im trying not to kill these guys and gal today). Got all my uplinks in place (the only cabling I really need to do, these are all 100GB connections, 40 meter cables ran across the top of the room). And I am starting to load my network configs onto the new switches so I can hopefully turn everything online tomorrow if all goes well.

Calgary is colder than a witches cunt ... -27C, and the windows in this hotel room are about as useful as a mint flavored suppository. I've got the thermostat cranked to 24.5C (it's as high as it'll go), but it sure as hell is fighting a losing battle against the windows.

Hope things go as well as they can with radiation on King Sr.

I think I finally got this hotel room warmed up. I only had one meeting today, so I was cooped up in here most of the day. I took a couple of opportunities to work elsewhere (hotel restaurant, and an adjoining atrium) because it was just too damned chilly in here. Now that I'm about to get under the covers, it's finally a comfortable temperature.
