Well, I certainly don't mind losing to an Ayreon, considering this comes from my #2 album of all-time.  Though, it kinda defeats the purpose of a roulette to send bands already submitted.  I know... I know ... Stads ok'd it, but I just think it goes against the principles of a roulette.  That's just me.

And yes, Ronnie-blowin-my-load Atkins is a helluva performer, and goes at it full throttle for a full set.  There's a lot of miles under the hood there - and it looks like it.   :D

Will contemplate the next submission, and send by tomorrow.

I can't say I disagree with that in principle; I'm trying to be accommodating, realistic, and not bored off my ass all at the same time.  :)

I think it's an open round?  I'm thinking about changing the Round 7 "open" to something themed.  What say you all; would you rather have free reign, or something to shoot for?

If it makes you feel any better, I had that one picked out from the beginning, which is why I asked him about JLB projects. I don't plan on repeating any others.

And yes, that album and the live release is all kinds of awesome.

Great submissions by Jingle and Home.

Stadler, talking about Ronnie blowing his load, get The Human Equation, pronto and you'll turn into Peter North.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Oh, and everyone should have enough sense not to send Devin Townsend Project, or Star One, or anything like that.

Except me ... because I always cheat.

Kidding.

@ Mosh, Burning Times has to be one of my least favorite IE tracks. With so many great tracks, that one does not compute.
Interesting. It is one of my favorites, but I did have a hard time choosing. There are others I prefer but I know Stadler puts a lot of worth into vocals and melody so i wanted something that had those elements plus IE’s power and classic metal influence (although apparently there was too much of that).

Anyway, Alive In Athens is my all time favorite live album (not counting anything Zappa).

Deep Peace is just all sorts of   :metal possibly my #1 Dev song. Amazing!

Also can't argue with the Ayreon submission. Themata is probably the best song I have heard by Karnivool but none of their albums have really clicked with me.

The way I see IQ, they came about the same time as Marillion, and both were spawned of Gabriel Genesis. The difference was that when H took over for Marillion, they intrinsically changed as a band, whereas IQ never did, they just grew in that neo-prog vein. I'd argue that there 6 album run from Ever to Road of Bones will hold up to any other bands run for quality of output, there isn't a bad egg in the batch.

And Peter Nichols is the best. Ever. Period.  :heart

I may not be the best to run a roulette, to be honest, because I am inclined to find something I like in everything, and I am LOATHE to just say "that sucks".  Which means a lot of 7's and 7.5's.   But whatever.   I will say to you all, this is an exciting experience; I'm finding myself looking forward to each round more and more.   And not to overstate things (or drop any clues, because I'm not) but I can't describe how much that DTP song has left an impression.  I haven't been hit by a piece of music like that since... I'm not sure I can tell you when.   Not even Neal Morse, because that was gradual (Beatles project -> Transatlantic -> Flying Colors -> Testimony -> TNMB, which is where he moved into one of my top three favorite artists).

Granted I'm going off one song (well, actually two) but if I had gotten into them earlier, or even before Marillion (I've been a fan of Marillion since Misplaced Childhood was first released, and I still prefer the Fish era over the H era, as much as I love all of it), do you think I would be saying "Well, Misplaced Childhood is just Steve Rothery doing his best Mike Holmes impression, and Fish needs to thank Peter Nicholls for the makeup hints"?     Except for Fish's voice, which I thought was VERY Gabriel/Collins-ish, and the obvious "Grendel closing section" (with the reference to "the looking glass", which as an American stood out for me) I never really got the "Genesis" thing with Marillion.  I always thought they were WAYYYYYYYY  more Floydian than Genesis.

Not at all; there was a lot to like - especially Collector of Souls - but when I get something with flaws (Loudness) and have to score it against something that rocked my world (DTP), it's going to be difficult.

I'm not going to lie, though, Lethean.  Didn't like the Leprous.   :)  :)  :)  :)
