Round 6:
TAC: Theocracy - Laying The Demon To Rest
10
TAC, sensing the lead in sight, comes strong in this round. This is about as epic as a sub-10 minute song can be. I haven't said much about lyrics because I usually listen to a song's music a couple times before I really begin to absorb the lyrics. After this song set in, I went in to the lyrics deeper to see if they were as good as I thought they were. They were.
Shadow Ninja 2.0: Triosphere - Driven
9
Loved the female vocals, very unique. Feminine, but with a hard edge to them. Add some killer riffs, and you have a winner! Short, concise, punches you in the face and pulls a Seinfeld, leaves you wanting more.
kingshmegland: Fates Warning - The Ghosts Of Home
9
Dabbled in FW back when I was getting in to the genre and didn't see the appeal. I started at the beginning, and John Arch was partially responsible for my lack of interest. I knew they got another vocalist down the road, but I didn't care enough about the music to care at that point. This is by far better than any FW I remember listening to. Did they get that much better this far in to their career?
Jingle.boy: Echoes - Rude Awakening
8
"Cut the music! What I'd like to have right now is for all you fat, out-of-shape, dtf.org sweathogs to keep the noise down while I show the ladies what a real man looks like." This was great. But who are these guys? Do they even have a Wikipedia page? A lot going on in a 6:30 song, cacophonous, mellow, powerful. Vocalist hit every section perfectly, impressive considering the variety of parts.
Parama: Venenum - Trance of Death: Part II: Metanoia Journey
8
Parama says "Excellent riffs, great sense of atmosphere and buildup, and some great melodies too. " Sums it up perfrectly for me. Some killer riffage, and excellent musicianship all around. Of course the first YT comment I see is:" Crazy drumming skill. It's like Phil Collins plays Death Metal." So, yeah, -1 point for comparing this to anything related to Phil Collins. Was hoping for some vocals. Alas, I never got them. Listed to other material from this album. Glad this song didn't have vocals.
Twosuitsluke: Coheed and Cambria - Welcome Home
8
Another apparent dtf.org darling I've never checked out. Good music, great lyrics (as I said before, lyrics don't usually catch me after the first couple listens.) Everything comes together in a nice package.
Elite: Jolly - Joy
7
Good modern rocker. Nothing flashy, just good solid rock. Initially thought the vocals would bring the song down, but they were quite good, fit the music well.
Stadler: Panic Channel - Loophole
7
Good song but didn’t' do anything to stand out among the better songs this round.
Tomislav95: Enchant - The Thirst
6
Reminded me of less-awesome early 80s Rush. Assume there is a heavy influence there. A little too proggy for my taste, but can see the appeal of these guys to the proggier among us.
Sacul: David Maxim Micic - Where is now?
5
Would have been a great instrumental. The vocals are all over the place and do a disservice to the music.
home: Sorority Noise - A Portrait Of
2
"I don't really have any musical talent, but I had a guitar and I'm pissed about something, so what the fuck." Middle section (approx 1:00-2:00) was rockin' pretty hard though.
