It's good, too bad it won't come back for a second season.

Quote from: Stadler on September 09, 2024, 05:46:28 AMFinished the Acolyte.  Horrible.

I sort of half-watched the first episode (meaning I was doing other things while watching, and I didn't pay a ton of attention).  Kinda sounds like it's not worth trying again.

Save yourself.  Don't watch it.

Finished The Wire, wow what a show. I always thought there would be nothing to squeeze into my personal top3 of tv-shows (Lost, X-Files, Twin Peaks) but The Wire is definitely a strong contender to do so.

Not sure what I'll watch next, I have some ideas. Been thinking about Oz, Sopranos, The Shield and Deadwood. Basically in a mood to keep going with high prestige TV shows that are highly rated that I just haven't gotten around to seeing.

MirrorMask

Sooner or later I'll watch The Wire. But I'm more intrigued in The Sopranos if we remain in "shows that are universally acclaimed but I never watched".

Main problem is that they never appear on the streaming services I use... I know where Tortuga is so to speak, but using streaming service for a good chunk of the year confines me to the offer of said services.

jammindude

Still binge watching Monk.

Three seasons into it and I was today years old when I discovered that Captain Stottlemeyer was Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs.

I swear it doesn't even look like the same guy but it is.

DoctorAction

Still on The Rookie. Midway through season 3. Still loving the throwaway, soapy, great-looking cheesefest that it is.

Also just got a 3 month freebie for Apple so am going to rest The Rookie at the end of season 3 as I've just found out that season 4 of Slow Horses is happening right now! Love that show. Not quite as amazing as the praise it gets, imo, but is great. Really watchable and Gary Oldman is just beautiful to behold.

I got one month free from apple a while back and watched
Silo.  The second season is due out in November.

Started Dark Matter.  Makes more sense watching it than the synopses seem.

By the way, Jennifer Connolly used to be JAW-DROPPING.  I get it we all age, and she's still beautiful, but when did she turn into a skinny bag of golf clubs?  (EDIT: I don't mean this as misogynistic as it sounds; it's not about pure looks, I'm honestly concerned for her health.)

We need the Jennifer Aniston thread from the old MP forums.

She's always been an enigma for me.  There's this:

And then there's this, where she looks like a dude...

I'm sure she's fine. People can be skinny and healthy.

But agreed she did change a lot.

We might have a different definition of the word "dude"

She's aged much better than I have!

The season 2 finale of The Expanse was so good.
\o\ lol /o/

cramx3

Been watch The Perfect Couple on Netflix, pretty good mini series on a murder mystery so far at the halfway point.

Jamesman42

Season 3 episode of The Expanse called "Immolation", holy hell what an episode!

So much happening, and the ending with the thing coming out of Venus. I'm excited to keep going.

Yeah from that moment on it's one hell of a ride!!!!

I didn't read the books the serie is based on, but - dunno if you already knew this - the seasons don't follow the books in the sense that 1 book = 1 season. So if you see breakneck action and huge plot points being resolved in the middle of a season, it's because the source material of a specific book has ended, without the season ending as well.

I was semi-aware but thank you for making sense of that.

Anyone remember if there was any discussion on Dark Matter, and if so, where (here on DTF, I mean).

faizoff

First episode of The Penguin was fantastic. Perfectly compliments the Batman movie and takes it up a notch in terms of violence and language. Fantastic acting as well.

The one with Danny DeVito?  Or was there a more recent Batman movie with the Penguin character?

Yeah there was some discussion somewhere in this thread. A few of us (including me) watched it when it came out. Good show. I'm surprised though that it is getting a second season but I'll be watching.

Enjoyed first episode of The Penguin, didn't blow we away at all but it was a promising start. So hard to believe that is Colin Farrell under all that make up, prosthetic etc. he is really great in the role.

There was a 2022 Batman movie where Colin Farrell was the penguin in it. This show is from that movie setting.

Just watched it... That's Colin Farrell? Holy shit that's amazing.

I loved it, great vibe, gritty but with a solid edge of comic ludicrousity. Really solid acting and writing too, got high hopes for the rest of the series

Nice one. I am presuming then that you haven't seen The Batman movie? This series is a direct continuation from the movie. Agree with all you said. I have high expectations for the series and not sure episode 1 reached those heights but it's early days.

I watched it once when it came out, will probably give it another go today just to up to date on the background

Halfway through season two on "The Bear".   RJ, I have SO many questions!!!  :) :) :). Most I can figure out (or already knew); it took one episode to know what "family" was, a couple to get what "stage" (pronounced "stodge" but with no 'd') was...

The next scenes weren't as impactful, but my god, the one scene where Carmy meets (well, reconnects) with Claire in the market... I don't know if it was the way it was shot (in extreme closeup) or the tasteful pink lipstick, or just the coy smile, but she (Molly Gordon) was ELECTRIC.  I couldn't take my eyes off her.

My one criticism so far... you can sort of tell that it was a sleeper series in season one, and season two was "we've got a fucking HIT here, kids!" season.  It's vague, there's nothing I can point to (the cameos are a bit too obvious as a symptom, and honestly, they don't really stick out much except in the one episode where Sydney does the Chicago restaurant montage) but I wonder of Storer REALLY knew there would be a season two when he wrote season one. There's a vibe that he did not.

PixelDream

I'm currently watching season 3 of The Bear. Still dope! Deserves every praise it gets. Season 2 was the best so far IMO, there were a couple of episodes there that are just 10/10, no ifs and whats about it.

Stadler

Don't get me wrong; I agree it's still dope. I'm traveling tonight and tomorrow so won't be able to watch probably until Wednesday and I'm bummed about that.  I love it, generally, and I want to see more Claire, really badly (I've just got the two scenes: one where they reconnect, and the second where she calls him after getting the wrong number).  That's not enough!!!

MirrorMask

I'm not the biggest fan of The Bear (not really into all the shouting while cooking) but it's good enough for me to come back to it, also considering that by now I've reached the bottom of the barrel of streaming services and I've already seen the best / most personally interesting shows, so with nothing else to watch, The Bear is more than welcomed.

I'll be back within days on Disney+ thanks to a promotion, so I'll already know what my lineup will be, having already seen what else worthwhile was there:

Only Murders in the Building's current season
The Bear
Welcome to Wrexham season 3

And probably Agatha All Along. I might even watch The Acolyte for completism, if I go into it with zero expectations and assuming it's a big festival of suck, I might even enjoy some parts of it  :lol
