Been watching The Rookie, starring Nathan Fillion from Firefly.

We're into the second season (of about 5 or 6) now and I'm hooked. Not because it's great. It's really not. But it
has this quality of an 80s, (mainly) episodic soap opera or something, set within the LAPD. Really light, no brain required, and all the cast is ridiculously good-looking.

I absolutely love it.

The wife and I really loved the first couple seasons (we both were big fans of Nathan Fillion in Castle), but we both thought it fell off when it resumed production during/after the pandemic.  Toward the end of season 4, they did a backdoor pilot for a spinoff, and I haven't really watched it since then (although I keep meaning to go back to it).

Finally finished the latest season of Mayor of Kingstown.  Ended pretty bleakly, but with one or two things unresolved, so I assume the intention is for another season.  Good to see Jeremy Renner back in the saddle.  Great performances all the way around.

Just learned today that for the first time ever, The Drew Carey Show is finally streaming. I freaking love that show and the entire thing is now up on the Plex free streaming service. Just watched the pilot and it looked fantastic for a show its age. Picture was a lot better than I expected. I will be going down this rabbit hole for the next several weeks doing a full rewatch.

I really wish they would finally settle all the music rights issues so this thing can get a wider release or even a long overdue physical release.

Took advantage of the weekend to chug down season 2 of The Expanse. Holy damn the season finale was all thriller no filler! and the mid season resolution to events of the first season.... wow!

hefdaddy42

FINALLY had time and bandwidth to start The Bear Season 3.  Three episodes in so far, and tension is through the roof.

This is wonderful news! I've got one more show that I need to binge!

Speaking of older shows, I've only seen episodes here and there, but I've never actually watched most of Monk. It's on Netflix right now so I just started binging that. I'll see if I can get Drew Carrie in the mix as well. I'm not sure if I have that channel, but I'll see if it's on Roku.

Plex has a Roku app. That's how I am watching it. I also happen to have a Plex server setup on my main PC so I play my music through that as well. Either way, you should have no problem watching on a Roku.

Sorry for crossing topics, but can you access your Plex server from your phone when your phone is NOT on your local network?

I have Plex on my Mac, with my music on a NAS and I'd like to be able to stream that to my phone wherever I am in the world.  :)

Yes you can. Just need the app on the phone. Though I'm not sure if you need the subscription for that to work

You can, but I don't. I did not configure my server for external access. I use it strictly to share stuff via all the Roku's in my house.

Deadloch. Black comedy and murder mystery in Tasmania. Absolutely bonkers and over the top  :lol

Finishing up watching Ozark for the second time.  On the second watch, I forgot to tally how many times Ruth says f***.  Got to be over a hundred.

lonestar

Jut started watching Average Joe on Netflix...dark comedy involving two suburban families, the Russian mob and 10 million dollars and a Lamborghini. Goddamn this shit is funny as fuck.

SeRoX

I'm probably so late to the party but I'm watching Will&Grace and I like it so far.  :lol

Some funny stuff there! Enjoy!

PixelDream

Finally decided to give The Bear a shot and I'm halfway through season 1. Good stuff, definitely enjoying it so far. Kinda digging the shorter episode runtimes as well.

Finished Ripley on Netflix a few days ago, excellent limited series! Loved it.

Zantera

I also finished Ripley last week, I haven't been that blown away by a show in a while. Maybe it's because I went in sceptical with no expectations, and wasn't familiar with the story, but damn did it blow me away. It also felt so unique compared to other shows today, being set in the 60s in Italy, being filmed in black and white, parts of it being in italian. It felt like a love letter to cinema with a fantastic performance by Andrew Scott in the lead, and beautiful cinematography where every frame feels like a painting.

ZirconBlue

My family and I have been watching Harry Wild on Acorn (via Amazon).  It stars Jane Seymour as a cantankerous retired Literature professor solving crimes in Ireland.  It's a lot of fun.

Jamesman42

I paused on The Expanse for a week or two but went to watch an episode last night and I watched two, it's really picking up now and I want to binge a bunch in a row.
\o\ lol /o/

Watching the current season of Umbrella Academy.

Rewatching Dexter.

Based on the fact that the new Opeth album concept was inspired by the show Succession as per Mikael Akerfeldt, I need to see it.

I watched it when it originally dropped.  This was such a fantastic project.  No weak spots.

Ok finished this series up, and I gotta admit it was quite excellent. They pumped the brakes on the comedy a bit, and really grew out the backstories, making for an outstanding comedy/drama. Great stuff all around.

It's an absolutely incredible show front to end. I was hesitant to watch it because on paper it's not really my thing, but I was blown away to say the least. Might take a few episodes to get fully hooked but when it does it's pure gold.

lonestar

Yeah I'll definitely give one more vote to Succession's brilliance...they did an admirable job of developing a full cast of characters with absolutely not one redeemable quality among them.

:lol  I think that's why I stopped watching after the first season, basically I hated all the characters.  Storyline wasn't bad though. Also the camera shakes would piss me off, another reason I stopped watching. Don't know why they decided to shoot the show like that.

PixelDream

The shaky cam thing almost feels like a The Office homage, I dig it.

Season 1 is good but the show really takes off from season 2. That said, if you're not invested after season 1 then the show is probably not your thing indeed.

100% agree. I did like Season 1, but starting with Season 2 I was hooked. It's a great show.

I'm actually considering watching it now.

I'm on episode 2 of part 3 of That 90s Show.

The Doug Funnie skit is just about one of the most inappropriate and hilarious things I've ever seen.  :rollin

A lot of people like it, so check it out, don't take my negativity on it as a reason to not watch.

In fact, I don't like a lot of TV nowadays.  I'm such a negative nancy on modern tv and movies.
