There's a thought process?

Seriously, I would think transparency, for better or worse.

I know he lawyered up yesterday. Do you think he was advised to release these?

My guess is that there isn't a person with the last name "Trump" within 1000 miles of Donald that is taking a shit without advice from counsel at this point.  Whether they follow it or not is a different matter, but I feel that - whether you like them or not, or feel them qualified or not - Donald, Jr., Eric and Ivanka are far more circumspect than their father.  It's all relative, but I don't expect them to make the same oafish blunders than their dad does.

Tl;dr:  Yes.

"Owning" the Times, which apparently informed him that it would be releasing them or at least another story about them.

To get his side of the story out there before the media shows their side is my guess.  The article even says, as antigoon pointed out, that these emails were going to come out soon anyway.

Well, the information about this has come out in the public over the past few days. First a little drops, Trump Jr. made some statements, then a little more came out that contradicted some of his statements, he then hired a lawyer (so maybe he was Tweeting / talking to the press about this without discussing with legal counsel last week...). A few more sources have gone public about some of the information, including some music producer guy who helped set up the meeting and the Russian lawyer in question.

I would guess he was almost certainly advised to release these by a lawyer: the story is out there now so I suppose at this point they would see it as better to get exactly what Trump Jr. recieved out there rather than let other parties' accounts or speculation dominate. I haven't followed it too closely but from what I understand Trump Jr.'s instinct seemed to be to respond directly to the press through Tweets and other statements - this approach seems a little bit more controlled so that's why I think it'd be following legal advice rather than on impulse.

Also as far as the Trump kids go, certainly Ivanka seems a lot more composed and far less prone to digging herself into trouble, I don't feel like I have much of an impression about Eric, but for Donald Jr. I might actually disagree about these types of oafish blunders - when he makes headlines it does often seems to be for basically admitting something without realising it's a problem. Donald Sr. does the same, but it's as part of his style of operating that has obviously been effective for him, and when he does he can go to denying, deflecting and spinning without skipping a beat. But Donald Jr. sometimes seems to reveal more without realising it when he opens his mouth to defend himself.

So, 10 minutes after Manafort, Kushner, and Don Jr met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, the president tweets the following (below).

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump

Changes so far in the story of the meeting as told by the Team MAGA

1) I had no meeting
2) I might have had a meeting.
3) I had a quick 10 second meeting.
4) I had 20 minute meeting but the campaign wasn't involved
5) I had a 20 minute meeting, but there was nothing of interest
6) I had meeting, hoping for dirt, but it did not happen. And it was just me.
7) I had a meeting, Kushner and Manafort joined me they didn't seem to care, no information was given.
8) I had a meeting and there was also a Russian Lobbyist present as well.
9) I had a meeting and might have been given information, but I will tell you it was not used.

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/362773-flynn-to-testify-trump-directed-him-to-make-contact-with-the

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn is expected to testify that President Trump instructed him to contact Russian officials during the 2016 campaign, ABC News reports.

Trump "directed him to make contact with the Russians," ABC's Brian Ross said Friday, just moments after Flynn entered a guilty plea for lying about his contact with Russians during the presidential transition period.

Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI on Friday, after being charged with one felony count in special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

According to ABC News, Flynn is also prepared to testify against Trump, members of Trump's family and White House officials.

The former adviser has reportedly also "promised full cooperation to the Mueller team" within the last 24 hours.

By accepting this plea deal he reduced his exposure from 60 years to 5-12 months. He's got to have at least 3 metric shit-tons of useful intel to get that deal.

Does Section 8D mean that he can no longer have a lawyer present when getting questioned?

That's odd, but I suspect there's some oddball lawyer thing where it makes perfect sense. Seems to me he waives the right to counsel during questioning, until he decides to ask for it at which point they'll allow it with no consequences. "We demand that you do X, Y and Z. If you decide not to, eh, you don't really have to."

It's really not. To me anyway, I find more interest in things like simplifying the tax code, making government more efficient, keeping our country safe from enemies foreign and domestic, than who talked to what guy in another country.

I definitely would if I could Chad. The stones that I am throwing are directed at most people on both sides of the aisle. I am not a Trump voter, or supporter, but I recognize that he is our president till 2020, and bogging things down with this Russia bullshit doesn't do a damn bit of good for anyone.

That's assuming it is bullshit.  I've always wanted to just get this stuff investigated and settled so the country can move on with whatever the end result may be since it's quite clear the country won't move on until so.

I'd say investigating how a foreign hostile government colluded with a candidate is a great way to clean up government and protect us from foreign and domestic threats.

Didn't realize we were at war with Russia. And since when is working together "collusion?" The way some Lefties present it, Putin physically walked in to polling booths across the county and held a gun to peoples' head making sure they voted for Trump. (that sounds more snarky than intended, I don't have time to write more now).

Maybe not at war, but since when has Russia been an ally?  Politically, economically, or militarily.

Maybe they could be an ally? Who knows?

We've been cheated and deceived by politicians since the Roman days. I'd love for it to stop. But I don't think a candidate meeting with a foreign power saying "hey, maybe we can work together?" is going to subvert the democratic process any more than a couple rogue elements posting shit on facebook before an election.

You guys are right, I support an investigation. I really do. I am just fearful this investigation will know no bounds any more than the one that tried to determine if Bill got his bishop polished by an intern did.
