I think about this from time to time. Imagine you wake up like 3am, groggy and totally out of it, but the damn house is on fire and you have like a few mins at most to figure out what you are bringing with you as you run out of the house.

What would you grab?

Wallet, keys, phone, external hard drive (where all of my music is backed up), the closest thing to wear (shoes and all).

Depends. Do I live alone or with family?

Say I lived alone but still had my cats, I'd make sure they made it out. If the fire isn't too bad yet, I'm making a run to the office, breaking a window and tossing my transformers collection and my CD collection the fuck out. Unfortunately they'd likely get broken due to my rock yard. Wish I had grass...

With family though, daughter and fiancé, then the cats. Hopefully they'll know to run out the door, cause they general are curious but afraid to go outside.

Just me, no cats, fire is too big, then shoes wallet, phone (AND CHARGER!) and keys.

It's hard to really plot such a scenario because of how life threatening it is. The unfortunate truth is pets are usually the ones that don't make it out, and although I see my cats as children, I have to put my daughter and fiancé before them. And of course, although it'll suck huge amounts of wang, I can't even think of such trivial yet sentimental things as a toy or CD collection.

Apart from the wife an kids, probably just the backup hard drive so I have all our photos and videos. Honestly, I really don't care much about anything else. I'd probably pull the car out of the garage I guess.

The fire extinguisher.
"Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are God. If it's apparent that a fire extinguisher is going to do nothing and there's an inferno in the house, then my two PCs, phone, wallet, keys, social, legal folder, and if I have time to toss some shit out the window then that (and yes I can carry my two PCs in one go, one of 'em is a tiny portable one).

This is of course assuming that my family isn't there, which most often these days they're not. If they are, then first thing is my niece and wake up my sisters and make sure they're out.

Pretty much everything in my room is expendable but my PCs and other tech stuff. That stuff together is thousands upon thousands of dollars and tons of hours spent. I'd be sad about my memorabilia and CDs, of course the daily lifestyle stuff that we all take for granted. But if I lost my PCs...hoo boy... That would be uh... probably the one time I'd actually consider falling off the wagon.

Right, I suspect in that situation, the only thing to save going through your mind is yourself and any loved ones in the house, too; everything else can be replaced.

Kids, wife...dog. That's about it. I keep our external hard drives with all the pics/etc. in a fireproof safe. I have quite a few guns so I don't imagine I'd be able to snag all of those without several trips....it'd be a bummer for sure to lose them along with a lot of our other 'stuff'...but those things are replaceable.

I have the American flag hanging over my bed, can't let that baby burn.

Once that's folded up, properly, I'd grab my passport/citizenship papers, wallet, phone, laptop, and kindle, in that order of importance. If I have time, I'd toss all that outside, run back in, and grab my new suit. Just spent good money to have that thing tailored, I am not losing it in a damn house fire.

I'm back at my parent's house temporarily so I get them out before anything else. I would have to grab my laptops because every photo I've ever taken of my daughter is on there. That's more important than anything else. Material items can be replaced otherwise. Besides the house being destroyed I'd be devastated because my book collection would be gone. Now I'm depressed. Fuck you.

I have a safe deposit box and usually once or twice a year I take out the external HD I keep in there and upload a few hundred/thousand new photos to it. I keep some bonds and a few other things in there as well.

I should consider multiple backup solutions.

I also have a shitload of themed thumb drives. We have a few of those digital picture frames around the house. I've made thumbdrives for Christmas, vacations, easter weekends, general fall, spring, etc... The digital frames play different galleries based on the time of year. They act as another line of defense against losing memories.

I'll wake my roommates for shure, but I honestly doubt I'll grab anything else. I always save all my important documents on a map that's linked to Onedrive so I can still access those. It will hurt too lose my guitar but it's nothing I can't live without.

For the past three decades, if needed, in homes and apartments where my bedroom was on the second or third story....

I push up the window next to our bed, toss the screen, I grab the rope which has knots about two feet apart that is tied around our bedframe, and throw it out the window.  I throw our passports out the window, my wife climbs out, I grab the dog, and 'we' climb out.

...going along with Dragon Attack's Queen thread has been like taking a free class in Queen knowledge. Where else are you gonna find info like that?!

You actually have a rope in your house tied to your bed just in case a fire ever happens?
