I gave that a thought when I posted but I felt I knew the usual suspects here well enough to not go over the line. If I misjudged I apologize.

Crude yes, misogynistic yes. The very nature of this scene is going to invite such responses. We used to attract a bigger group of people in this thread, but I think most were chased off because they couldn't compete and/or were disgusted with the vulgar, scattalogical leanings in here.

My suggestion is to respond only to scenes you like, and only with responses that you feel good about.

Using a game as pretense to be mysoginistic, got it - I'm guessing racism is also cool if the prompt gives you room for it?

@Cool Chris, there's nothing wrong with the prompt itself - some of the replies though are sad.

just read a few of these posts and gotta say, it's really disappointing to see such clear misogyny displayed here. it's important to treat everyone with respect and dignity, regardless of gender. let's create an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.

Probably best you ignore this thread then because 90% of the responses to any of the scenes are those of a 16 year old boy living in 1985.

None of us here are bigots or hate women or racists.....it's literally just locker room banter. If you can't handle that or don't like it or whatever then it's up to you to avoid it. Not those of us who regularly have participated in this thread for a decade.

Respectfully, since you're talking about people's intents (which you can never really know) I think assuming it's a "pretense" to be misogynist is a leap, and a big one at that.  One, as it's such a small aspect of the overall forum, if anyone here was really a misogynist, they wouldn't need the pretense of this particular thread.

I am primarily speaking only for myself, but I know others have tended to agree with me on this, intent DOES matter.  I do not buy into the notion that "anything" that one person deems "bad" or "offensive" by definition MAKES it bad or offensive.  I come from a family of matriarchs.  My mom was a horse, in the best sense of the word; she was as strong as steel.  Both of my wives were strong, capable women, and I'm proud of that fact (it's what attracted me to them to begin with).  I have raised one and a half daughters (the "half" is my step daughter, who I've only known for about a third or so of her life) that I have encouraged at every step to grab the world by the balls and own it.

I haven't replied yet to this particular scene, but assuming I do, making a joke about a female stereotype doesn't all of a sudden make me a misogynist, and I'm CERTAINLY not seeking out opportunities to flex what you make sound like a hidden muscle.

The very question implies you think he would "agree with you", but there's as much scripture that says he was a tolerant, patient man that accepted us all at face value, in the totality of our being, so I'd like to think that he'd judge the rest of us by the totality of our "work" and not jump to conclusions based on 10 posts out of 100,000's on a music discussion board.

I respectfully disagree that intent is enough to make this ok. Just because someone didn't mean to hurt anyone with an offensive joke doesn't automatically make it alright. Even if it's meant as a joke, it can still spread stereotypes and hurt people. I can't imagine many women feeling welcome if they open this thread and see that everyone's first association with a prompt about women is BJs and taking pants off. Being careful with our words matters, no matter what we meant. That's just my two cents and I'll bow out this thread and discussion from here on out because I have a sneaking suspicion everyone's mind is made up already anyway and we won't agree on this.

Being careful with your words is always wise. At the same time, forcing people to account for how every hypothetical person might interpret them, correctly or incorrectly, is highly destructive.

I didn't say "intent makes it ok".  I said "intent MATTERS".   YOU ASSUMED right out the gate that this is all hate driven, and that's what I'm pushing back on.  I'm asking you, please don't assume about me (and I would hope everyone else, but I can't speak for them).

I don't 100% know if this is offensive or not; one, it's not necessarily for me to decide, and two, I'm still learning about things that I never even knew were a "thing", and it's all a work in progress.  Hopefully we're all a little bit better tomorrow than we were today.  I would never want to make my female friends here uncomfortable, but I also have a level of faith that JUST because it has to do with "sex" or "BJs" that one, it may NOT make them uncomfortable, and two, that ultimately THEY can make the decision if it's something that makes them feel that way.  I'm not here to tell them.  From there, we can decide if the best course of action is for just one individual to stay away from the thread, or maybe the thread itself has to change for the benefit of all of us.

I do know, though, that the right answer is NOT an absolutely perfect, sterile environment catering to the lowest common denominator.
